Instead of steaming them..try roasting! They are fantastic! If you do a search on Pinterest you can find all kinds of recipes.
This! I roast all sorts of veggies and love them. This week I am roasting cauliflower then tossing with a teaspoon of dijon mustard. Super delicious and a little crunch.
This sounds delicious...I love Dijon Mustard! Do you roast the cauliflower with the dijon mustard on or you toss them after it is done roasting?0 -

Just toss after I'm done. I was worried the mustard might burn/get icky with too much heat.0 -
I use lots of Penzey's salt-free blends. They have several ethnic and regional seasonings that are really good as well as some all-purpose ones.

Grilled with a little olive oil sprayed on (I love my Misto), kosher salt and fresh ground black pepper. Asparagus, broccoli, sliced eggplant, fat slices of onion~ just about anything that you would roast. I use a perforated vegetable "wok" so they don't fall through the grates. Dee lish!0

There is a glaze I use when I roast Salmon Steaks that I am wondering if it would work here ... it is:
3 tablespoons honey
3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon black pepper0 -

That would probably be awesome!0 -
Saute them with raw garlic and a little Olive Oil......YUM!
If you're not up for garlic, Mrs. Dash has so many different flavors you won't miss the salt.....high sodium is bad.
I've also heard roasting them is delicious! But I'm on a Garlic kick right now, what can I say?! :laugh:0 -
Curry powder. It makes everything tasty!0

I add crushed red pepper to most of my veggies.
I prefer to sauté my veggies with a 1/2 TBSP of olive oil, salt and crushed red pepper. As others have said, roasted veggies are delicious. My favorite is roasted asparagus.0 -
Don't steam the ever-living-snot out of them. They taste better when they're not over cooked.0

Steamed vegetables ARE blah! Cook them another way - roast them or sautee in some olive oil spray. Eat with Sriracha or Frank's hot sauce!0

Yah - don't steam them for more than 5 minutes or they get mushy (yuck). Concur that roasting is so much better - brushed with olive oil and dash of garlic powder. I love grilling veggies - especially beets, zucchini, corn and potatoes.0

Put butter on them.0

Instead of steaming, stir fry your veggies. It's quick and looks nice, tastes great. I made mine tonight with a bit of coconut oil, garlic, ginger, and fresh lemon juice. Very tasty.0

I'm looking for ideas of how to make steamed vegetables taste better. Help?
Add butter! (the real thing, not margarine). Saturated fat will help your body absorb the vitamins and minerals in the veggies and butter tastes damned good.

Yes butter!!!! its good for ya! Dont use none of that fake spray junk or fat free gunk.........go natural :bigsmile:0 -
I agree with the roasters - roasted veggies are delicious!
However, I'm not much of a cook so I depend on steamed veggies (the ones you microwave in the bag). When I'm pressed for time I sprinkle some popcorn seasoning on them - it comes in butter, white cheddar, parmesan and nacho cheese flavors. The white cheddar is my favorite.
The good side is that it's quick and easy, and works great on cauliflower, brussels sprouts and potatoes. The calorie count is also very low - an entire jar of the seasoning has about 200 calories. The down side is that it's probably not a good idea if you're watching your sodium.0 -
I eat all my veggies in soups, omelettes or in salads, especially Asian salads like green papaya salad spiked with carrots, green beans, tomatoes and shrimp. I truly loath most vegetables alone, but love them with a spicy dressing, or combined with meat or cheese.0

Instead of steaming them, roast them. Put on a baking sheet and drizzle olive oil on them. Sprinkle salt and pepper and some minced garlic. Roast at 425 for 20-25 minutes or so (watch them to see when they start to turn brown at the ends but not burn). Pull them out, squeeze half a lemon over them and voila.
If you've never done this before, I promise you'll never want to steam vegetables again.
Bless you for this post, it may seem like something simple but honestly I have only ever steamed with a bit of butter and lots of dill weed. I just tried this for lunch and am in heaven!!0 -
I like steamed vegetables when I put seasoning on them... salt & pepper... my favourite thing to put on them is fajita spice!0

stir fry them or roast them rather than steaming.0
