Did I increase my calories too much too soon?

Options
I have been under eating for about 3 months. Starting Monday, I decided to gradually increase my intake in order to do this weight loss journey correctly. I thought I upped it from 400 to 700, but it turns out I mis counted and upped it from 400 to 800! Is that too much in such a little time? Will I gain a lot of weight? I wanted to keep increasing every week (less than 300 next time), but now I'm scared.

400 calories a day is extremely unhealthy. You did nothing wrong by increasing it to 800. Keep it like that for a week and increase to 1200 daily. What's your height and weight?

Considering how much you are under eating, it seems you are VERY low. I do not know the best way to increase that and if there are dangers with increasing to quickly. I would consult with a nutritionist that deals with eating disorders. (You may not have an eating disorder per se, but you have been eating at ED levels at least for a little while. An ED specialist would know how best to increase calories and how quickly it can be done.)

I know it's unhealthy, but I visited a nutritionist yesterday to sort out a plan. I'm 5'3 and 97, but I'm gonna say 100 since I probably gained.

I'm seriously interested in this as I've been wondering so myself. I was/am a low cal eater, ranging from 500-1000 cals *gross* for the day, not *net* cals like MFP calculates. I sometimes eat my exercise calories, but usually I don't.
I promised myself I'd start doing weights once I hit 150 - and that's 15lbs away, so I need to start eating more to fuel the burn I'm going to expect.
Right now, my cal goal on MFP is set at 1200, but it was at 800. Two weeks ago it was at 1000.
I haven't really noticed a gain at all. Very little difference to my body or mood has happened since I started aiming higher.
Now, I question what will happen if I start eating over 1200. Most lifters on here eat anywhere between 1500-2000 cals I've seen... That's DOUBLING my food! - Well, doubling, if I hit cal goals. Which I rarely do - I really undereat a lot.

    97lbs? You weigh 97lbs.

Wow. I'd say a little bit of weight is probably a good thing. Lift weights so you don't look soft (not that anyone would think you are).

At 97lb you don't need to lose weight - if anything put a bit on and then tone what you've got if you aren't happy with your body shape.

You can be from 107-141 and be in the ideal weight, so do not worry if you gain anything. Plus, it could be water retention, new exercise, etc. Try to increase and maintain to a better weight level and then introduce exercising to your schedule.
