Is my daily routine sedentary or lightly active?

So, I didn't think this would be so hard to figure out. I'm a caregiver at an adult family home and I work a 12 hour night shift. Of those 12 hours, I'd say I'm on my feet walking back and forth doing things for about 4 solid hours. I have an hour of cleaning and another 3 hours of preparing people for the day, which involves alot of bending, some lifting and walking. That's my work

After work, I go on an hour long walk at a park. Then I go home. But I count my walk on top of my "lifestyle" so I guess I would just consider work what I'm asking about. What do you guys think?

Just my opinion... I would say either lightly active or active. You are getting a lot of movement in throughout the day. Definitely not sedentary!

I work in a factory, so on my feet and moving a lot, lifting boxes etc. Sedentary left me hungry, so I went to lightly active. I kept losing more than 0.5 pounds a week. Because I lose and gain to quickly, I went to active. Take not of how you are feeling. I would start at lightly active. If you feel hungry or extra tired, move up again. As much as you want to lose weight, you also want to be healthy. I also found because I used to not eat enough, than eat too much of the wrong foods , I ended up with more energy calorie counting. Feeling better, and having more energy meant more general activity and I move faster at work. This is why I think you have to take note of how you feel. Each person is different. Good luck

I have a fitbit zip. When I go about my daily activities, washing dishes, dog walks, etc. Fitbit rates me at lightly active. When I do seated activities, it rates me as sedentary. I've noticed when I walk with purpose (as in to a store, to catch a bus etc.) Mr. Fitbit calls that very active. I would approximate that walking speed to 3 mph on a treadmill.

Sedentary is basically for people that are either unemployed and watch TV all day long (with a break here and there), or for people that work in an office, sitting most of the time. If you're on your feet 4 hours and have to do actual physical labor, then you're either lightly active or even active (depending on how physical the labor is).
