Squats question.

Hey friends,

I have a question about weighted squats. When doing weighted squats, does it matter where I hold the weight? I find it easier on my shoulders and back if I hold two 20 lb dumbell's in front rather than a 40 lb bar on my shoulders. Does it make a difference?

Thanks a lot!

As long as your form is still good, it shouldn't make much of a difference...

Why don't you use a barbell? IMO front squats are harder. Back squats with a barbell are easier.

It's essentially a different exercise (hack squats) when you put the weight in front.

I don't ever recall having shoulder issues doing barbell squats. If your back is tired, lower the weight and start working your way up. those back muscles probably need to grow a bit, then move on to heavier squats once your back is stronger.

It does make a difference, but both are effective but they work slightly different muscle groups. I also find back squats with a barbell to be a lot easier than front or goblin squats (holding a dumbell or kettlebell out in front)
