Bum knees advice

Hello there! I have had 18 knee surgeries and to say the least I have no cushion in the knee joints. My last surgery was almost a decade ago, so it's not like I have an injury.... Just crappy knees lol. I won't let it stop me from walking to get my exercise but I sure wouldn't mind at all if they didn't feel like crushed glass was in there. So I pose a question to you.... Has anyone tried those dr scholes (sp) orthodic inserts? Do they help much? They are not the cheapest (around 45.00) so I don't want to spend the money if they get poor reviews. I have a good pair of sneakers and I used those when I walk.

Like I stated before, these old bones won't stop me from taking my walks, just want it to be more enjoyable!

Thanks,
Jackie

I have severely bad knee's from my previous weight and have had multiple surgery (clean outs, etc) and went through years of shots which stopped working a few years back and am going on my 3rd set of DonJoy OA braces, I described the feeling when I walk as walking barefoot on sharp stones (have no cartilage left in either knee) I have tried every thing and am currently using minimalist shoes (Vibrams) and am strengthening the muscle in my legs and feet but I personally do not think there is anything that can be done to cushion the blow from being bone on bone, well that is until I go to my ortho dr. on Monday to get ready for my knee replacements... Curious though to hear any suggestions, I am always up to try anything to ease the pain..... Best of Luck to you.....

My sister just had the get around knee replacement on her left knee and 2 weeks later she says its AMAZING the difference she feels! I mean she still has post op swelling and is still in PT, she has a ways to go until she has total freedom, but she did say that there is no longer the pain she had for years! Best of luck to you with yours, I hope they make you feel like a new person like it did my sister. It's a shame what we have done to our bodies.... But thank goodness there is time to change it for each of us. You are an inspiration with your weight loss and life change!

Thank you... Yeah I have been in PT on and off after surgeries and am well known at our Hospital Wellness Center and have talk to lots of people recovering from knee replacements and they ALL say they same thing. They wake up from surgery and the first thing they notice (short of the surgery pain) is the constant aching 24/7 pain is Gone!! and that my friend will be music to my ears..... Thanks again and Best of Luck to you on finding some pain free days ahead....

This gives me hope. I have a huge hole in my cartilage, had a cleanout 9 weeks ago...and don't think it fixed much (still feel that constant burning ache). My dr. is considering filling the hole with biocartilage! i'll find out more in may when i see him at my 4 month post op appt. In the meantime, trying to lose the 30 lbs i gained since the injury 10 months ago. this site helps, but i need to kick it up a notch. BMI seems to affect his decision making, on which procedure to do.. Feel free to friend me if you need knee/exercise motivation. Can't bike or walk much yet, but swimming and weight lifting up a storm. good luck!
