Nutrician help - Balanced Diet

*nutrition

59 y/o Male. 5'9", now 195lbs

I've learned alot over the past 3 months as I have begun to diet and excercise. Everything is going well as I have lost about 30 lbs and am becoming more fit. I'm working with a 1200 calorie diet (target 2lbs/week weight loss) plus eat most of the additional calories I earn with excercise (325-1000/day). Some days I net over the target, most days I am right at or under because I try to catch up after dinner if I have the time. Last week for instance I lost 1.8 lbs.

So now I am starting to look at the balance of the calories I consume. I know that in general, sodium and fat are not good for you and don't really have much trouble staying under the 'allocation'. It's the sugar that I'm having a problem with. A glass of milk, an apple and a couple of clementine oranges is about all it takes to blow my sugar allowance. One Chobani yougurt has more than half my basic daily allowance all by itself! I might have an occasional ice cream cone or piece of pie/cake but I'm not eating candy, donuts, bagels, muffins, etc anymore.

I don't suffer from any metabolic problems and so I wonder if I should just not worry about it. Or if I should then why? Whats the impact of the sugar and how does myfitnesspal determine that number?

Thanks

How much protein are you getting? If you up the protein percentage in your macros the carb requirement will decrease. I wouldn't worry too much about the sugar, you seem to be getting it from healthier foods. Personally, I don't even track it. You can get more help if you open your diary.
