I don't know all the rules in power lifting but this can't be good for her back lol.

  • Hmmm, can't open the video for some reason but I can see her form. In powerlifting and working with heavy weight in general, you want your feet back as far as possible when benching and an arch in your back, supposed to be able to put a fist through the arch. Keep your arms as close to the body as possible and bring the bar down to the chest, then up to just before full arm extension. All of this allows your legs and lower-body to help with the pressing and keeps damaging pressure off of your shoulders.

All of these years I was benching incorrectly, the owner of the gym - a former local powerlifting competitor - taught me how to bench correctly and my bench went up immediately. I no longer feel it in my shoulders as they were starting to hurt pretty badly.

Her arch seems pretty extreme but then at my age maybe i'm just not as flexible?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxAc97K2I5M or just type in "13 year old girl Benches 240lb RAW"

I am conflicted. It's a magnificent accomplishment (and darn humbling), but I also wonder if she is indeed 13 years old if this kind of weight is too risky?

She makes me feel like a wimp lol. And I can't help but think she's being pushed to go easier each time she breaks her record.

I think that's cool if that is indeed real but being a parent myself, I've heard that those under 14 shouldn't lift weights like that. *shrugs* Good for that kid though!

I can tell you right now, she is going to have all types of back problems as she gets older. No bueno.

I have a friend whose older brothers (all over 6 feet tall) started him lifting weights at a very early age. He was brick ****house at 12 years old and never got any taller than 5'5. He's convinced that if he had started lifting 3 years later he'd have been as tall as they were.

Ya, that is impressive. But she is going to mess up her back, and for what?

I think it's awesome that she can do that and it looks like her form is pretty standard powerlifting form. It just looks like she's a lot more flexible than most powerlifters. Not surprising I guess considering she's from a part of the world known for gymnasts and acrobats etc.
