I am about to give up

On exercise. Or I should say I FEEL like giving up sometimes. It seems like everytime I turn my head, I get hurt from working out.

December 2008, I twisted my ankle (Grade 2 ATFL ~ surgery) and went down and dislocated my shoulder (2 tears in my labrum, ligament tightening and anchored to bone surgery to fix). It took me a while to get back up from that one. It was a doozy. I put off shoulder surgery for two years and then it took me a good year to recoup from it.

Last September, I started walking with a friend 2-4 miles a few times a week until I started having a horrible pain in the top of my right foot. It ended up being a stress fracture.

So, I have been mainly just working out on elliptical with an occasional jaunt on the treadmill. And for the past few days, on my left foot, right under the toe next to my big toe, I am having a really sharp pain. I google and all I am coming up with is neuroma, another stress fracture or Metatarsalgia.

I did go on Thursday and get fitted for some nice motion control shoes (Brooks) and the pain is better while in them, but when I take them off, it is back immediately. I can't wear them to bed!! LOL. I guess I need to make an appointment with the ortho or podiatrist, but it is SO discouraging to get into a groove and to hurt something :noway:

So sorry to hear about your injuries. But don't get discouraged, we all have our sufferings. I tore my right calf muscle (level 2 tear) in Jan 2012, spent 6 weeks on a cast and crutches, then 3 months in physical therapy. Just as I was out of PT, I tore my other calf (same injury)! What are the odds of having to go through it again?

But in any case, exercise will only make your body stronger, and able to recover faster and better. I do think you should see your doctor soon.

    Good luck!

May I suggest exercise bikes or water aerobics? less stress on feet/ joints and one can burn some cals on both!

I feel your pain! First of all, congrats on your 79lbs! That is just awesomeness! Do not give up. You've come so far. Could it possibly be from your shoes? Maybe you need a new pair? I know what you mean about being in the zone...I am there now and I don't want to miss a day of exercise. Swimming would be great. Do not give up.....keep trying and moving forward.

I'm with okcat4. Biking or water exercise is your best bet until you get some of your weight off. Obviously your bones are not strong enough for that kind of weight bearing exercise right now. Water aerobics or swimming are both excellent workouts.

Oh, I have only lost 13 so far. LOL. I have 79 more to go. And I did just get new shoes Thursday. I went to a place that puts you on a machine and checks your feet really well. They are Brooks and are really comfty. And it definitely helps the pain while I am wearing them. Just hurts when I take my shoes off at home, ya know?

I am going to give the shoes a little longer and see if they get rid of the pain but if it is still hurting or gets worse, I will go see my dr.

    Thank you for the encouragement.
