Most cats get traumatised when you move house. Keep him/her indoors for at least a week to adjust to the new surroundings. When we moved house our cats didn't settle until we did. Once we got unpacked and started snuggling up on the couch in the evening to watch TV, they adjusted, and joined us. The next day they both started eating and drinking.

Put butter or cream cheese on their paw. THey will like it off and become more relaxed. Keep them inside and give it lots of love and chat to it. Just a bit of time :) Keep trying.

Feliway spray sometimes helps - just give them lots of love and attention, they usually settle after a week x

Sign him up to MFP and show him the importance of getting his full compliment of nutrients each day.

OR just give him a lot more fuss for a few days so that he feels secure and make sure food is always available when he wants to start eating again. He'll be OK

Leave food and water out in a visible, accessible area. And just let your cat do it's thing, it needs to explore every tiny nook and cranny of it's new environment to even begin to feel comfortable.

If it's been a few days and still not eating, call your vet and ask.

How long did you move. I am very lucky my cat just settles anywhere and goes out after about a week. My moms however is very easily unsettled, she needs to feel very secure before she even comes out - all cats are different. Sure once they are settled they will come out. You can get a diffuser that can help as it has catnip or something similar in it. Hope they are ok soon xx
  • I'd leave your cat indoors for at least 2 weeks. Unpack, make sure your energy is calm and confident. Don't pay too much attention to your cat or you'll only validate that there's something going on.

Also, I would go out and buy some valerian herbs (or cat mint). You can buy them at health stores where they sell it for making tea. Just put some of the herbs on the floor or in his/her catbed. I think you cat will thank you :). (PS: beware, that stuff smells like socks)

One of my cats is ultra-sensitive. Freaks out about any changes in her environment. When I first got her, she hid under the bed for 5 days. I never saw her. She must have only come out to eat/drink at night. I was two weeks before she let me touch her. Just give her time. Just stay calm and reassuring and don't try to force her, just make it safe for her to get to food / water / litter alone and put some catnip on a kitty bed or climbing tree.

One thing that really helped her i think was that i adopted two together, so she always had her sister kitty for comfort.

Everyone else has the right idea. Just give her time to adjust and make sure her food and water are out and available to her. If you feel she is overly stressed, you may want to either get Feliway calming spray and spray down her favorite sleeping spot, or get the Feliway Diffusor. Personally, I didn't have much success with the diffusor, but every cat is different.

Butter on their paws, cleaning makes them feel at home. keep them indoors for a while to adjust to the new home. let them have a safe place to hide, where their food and water is etc, not too much movement :) give her time, I have moved my cats more than 6 times, works everytime

This. But I would actually say get a dog also. Cat's are fragile creatures if their food isn't just right, their favourite show gets cancelled, or they have a bad day they pretty much break. Dogs are way better.

No. I would rather kill myself than have to give up my cat.
