quick question, just bought a HRM (FT7) last week, and in an hour workout im burning 700-800 calories! and thats just cardio!
im 5'7 male, 25, 198lbs, 30% BF
now, i dont know if i should believe it, i mean, ive been going to the gym for the last 5 weeks, newbie strengh gains have been ridiculous! and i now feel like i can do even more cardio than just an hour (limit myself) but does this seem accurate to anybody?
my HR at rest is around 70, i average 130-140 at moderate effort and between 160-170 at high intensity, which drops to around 100 after about 1-2 mins of stopping
any sugestions guys?
cheers

if you're a newbie at fitness, yes it's very possible to burn that much. your body isn't quite used to delivering oxygen/other nutrients to your organs/muscles as efficiently (which will improve over time as your fitness levels improve). when i was doing insanity last year, i was also quite new and i was burning up to 1000cals for a 50min workout!
if you calibrated your HRM correctly and wear it right (wetting the connectors etc), and you're getting that reading, then i would say it's accurate.0 -
Doesn't seem unreasonable if you are working hard.0

cheers man, its not like im sat texting on the bike at level 1 for 60 mins and getting that burn
was just worried, didnt want to log it and have to eat it all back if it was wrong0 -
I just purchased a Timex HRM this weekend as well. My calorie burns were off about 200-300 calories from the on line calculator estimates. Another key piece of info that I like is the recovery heart rate tracking...I look forward to seeing an improvement in that as well!0

I get similar burns for a good cardio workout. I like to think of it as one of the "perks" of being overweight and out of shape. As we lose weight and improve fitness, the burns will decrease.0
