I was curious if anyone has experienced weight gain while taking paxil? I starting taking Paxil a little over a year ago for anxiety, and since I have gained 40lbs. I can not fully place blame on Paxil, but I do have a feeling that it had something to do with my weight gain as I gained the 40lbs within 4 months of taking it.

I don't take Paxil but do take Effexor XR for anxiety. I have not gained any weight with it (not that I can blame on the medication any way!).

I took Paxil awhile ago..I gained a lot of weight from it too. I really liked zoloft, I don't know how much it will help with anxiety, but...no weight gain on that one.
    Good luck!

I took paxil starting at age 18 and never gained any weight at all...in fact I was at my smallest back then...
I've got a good friend on here though and she had the same thing happen to her....=o/

When I went on paxil for PPD (post-partum depression), I actually lost weight since it supressed my appetite - weird! However, there were other unwanted side-effects, so I stopped and with time my body returned to "normal" (whatever that is, lol!)

I took it also for severe post partum depression. It worked wonders for that part of it but, yes, I gained weight from it too. It was also pretty scary when I would run out or would stop taking it abruptly because the side effects caused me to crash further into depression...worse than before I started on it. It has been soooo long but I believe I started on 10 mg and eventually ended at 40 mg. At the time, it was relatively a new drug and the doctors and pharmacists emphatically denied it had anything to do with weight gain. They have since posted on the warning that accompany the prescription that it does, indeed, cause weight gain in most cases.
