Hiya!

I'm not a new member to MFP - but taking it "seriously" is a new chapter.......so here goes my first forum post!

I have been doing the 30DS workouts and I'm about ready to move onto Level 2. I am also going to try Insantiy in the next week or two (its on order....!) So what I wanted to know was, what are people logging these workouts as on here?

I have currently been recording it as "Circuit" training, but I feel the calories burned are potentially inaccurate! Has anyone got any suggestions as the move effectvie way to record this exercise without having to invest in a Heart Rate Monitor? I'm using a free app after all......

Thanks! :-)

You are correct, MFP's default database for calories burned is inaccurate. But if you must use it, log it using "Aerobics, general"

I'm in my 4th week of Insanity and I can tell you the MFP database is WAY off. I was logging as High Impact Aerobics and coming up about 200-400 short of my calorie burn. If you have a Smart Phone there are several free heart rate apps out there. I used one for about 2 week before I decided to go get an inexpensive HRM wrist strap style (not as accurate as the chest strap versions I know) for about $45 at Target. The Smart Phone apps still left me about 100 to 150 cals short of my actual burn. But if you are looking for free the apps are better than relying on MFP for sure!

I record it as curcuit training.

Yes, I have to say I think I will stick to recording it as circuit is there is nothing more suitable. I dont feel aerobics alone would suffice, becuase at least circuit training takes into account the strength and intervals.....

Feedback thus far greatly appreciated tho! I thought as a newbie I might be left hanging! :-)

Without a HRM, I would log as Circuit Training and only eat back half of the calories given. (If you eat back excercise calories).
I know for Level 1 30 DS my HRM shows it burns between 170-180 calories and MFP has it at least 100 more than that.

I have used both and they are awesome. I love Insanity but it burns so many calories you have to stay on top of eating right and often. I log it under curcit training for both and I think thats about right for me. My fitbit is normally only a few cals off from what MFP says so it reassures me. Did you get Shakology with the Insanity? It really helps and its awesome all the way around totally worth the price. I only eat back calories if I need to. It's working so far for me. Good luck and have fun!
