I get married in 10 and a half weeks. Is this enough time?

Consider making your "cheat day" a rest day (or maybe just the dog walk) and also do something relaxing for yourself. I'm sure planning a wedding is stressful and you don't want that pesky stress keeping you from dropping the weight!
I'm vaguely aiming for a lean-gains style approach* where by I eat more on lifting days and less on 'rest' days.
*When I get back in to it properly.
I think for the OP, the big thing is to stick to whatever she chooses and REALLY focus on the goal in ten weeks - sure, there may be a little slip or two, but try and make up for it with an extra half hour dog walking ASAP, so you're back in balance.
All too often for me it's easy to get in to bad habits very quickly.0 -
I am far from an expert, but if it were me I wouldn't waste time on the weights right now and just spend my time on cardio. I don't think you're going to be able to build any muscle at that deficit and also there isn't enough time to build enough to matter. Just kick it into high gear with cardio twice a day (a.m. & p.m.)like they do on biggest loser.
Nope. I find this to be bad advice.
Also agree this is bad advice. This is just 8 weeks of strength training with free weights and very minimal weight loss: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/744311-free-weights-vs-machines-holy-crap
I did cardio also, but it's the same cardio I'd been doing for a year and a half. Cardio didn't make a difference in my shape.
Wow you look great! I knew there was a reason my gut was telling me not to give up weights!
And thank you sooooo much everyone. So much great advice!0 -

Went from a size 10 to an 8 in about ten weeks. Scale didn't move at all. The only change was lifting.
Agreed. Cardio will not help you get smaller in this time frame. In about 10 weeks I dropped two sizes as well. I didn't lift heavy, but I did intense bodyweight work, which is similar in principle.
Look up Convict Conditioning, You Are Your Own Gym, or try the Insanity program. I should note that I lost 11 inches off my body in 10 weeks with bodyweight work, but the scale only moved three pounds.

Any wedding dressmaker will tell you that brides tend to loose weight in the run-up to the wedding just from the stress and excitement. Add in the hard work you have planned and you will definitely see a difference! Remember to drink loads of water and factor in some relaxation and pampering so that you not only look great but feel your best. Good luck and enjoy.0

I saw more changes in 8 weeks of lifting heavy weights then I did in years of cardio alone. Don't listen to clueless people telling you to just do cardio. Forget the scale and get in that gym and do a good heavy lifting beginner routine. Still do a little cardio if it makes you happy. I'm telling you this from a fellow bride to be, only difference here is I gave myself over a year to get into shape. I'm a slow mover ya know...0

i just hope you don't eat at too much of a deficit, as that can be detrimental to your goals as well, especially if you are working out as much as you say you will be,
good luck.0 -

Couldn't agree more. It's now about improving what you already have instead of trying to lose more weight. I've lost 3" from my waist since starting strength training two months ago. I've been running three times a week for nearly a year but the inch loss from weights in a shorter space of time has been noticeably better. The routine you are using sounds fine but for info this is the one I'm doing at home with as heavy dumbbells as I can possibly manage: http://produmbbellworkouts.com/dumbbell-routines/full-body-high-volume/
All the best with your wedding! :flowerforyou:0 -

Agree. A good mix of intense cardio and weights will usually yeild the best results in a short time. Don't slack on either. If you want quick results, go hard.0 -

I have a deficit of 300 cals. My net calories are 1200. My tdee (not including workouts) is only 1500 hence the1200 number . I also make sure I eat back my exercise calories0 -
Cut carbs! My fiancee and I lost 20lbs in 8 weeks just by doing this and becoming a bit more active. 120-130 g of carb per day.0
