Two years ago on January 1st, 2011 I started my weight loss journey at 341lbs. I started out by doing Weight Watchers and have had a lot of success. There has been ups and downs. The first year I lost 66lbs and that was a life changing experience but then I recommitted come 2012 and by fall of 2012 I was down a total of 140lbs.
During my recommitting in 2012 I decided to challenge myself by taking up running. By the time I finished the Couch to 5K program I decided to take it a step further and realized I wanted to do a half marathon before the end of the year. I was lucky in the fact that my wife has been running for years and has also done long races before. The end of October I ran my first half which was the Monster Dash. I finished with steam and was ready to run more.
Then something happened and when I came off that high I kept falling off the wagon. I would gain a few pounds, drop a few pounds, always hanging between 200 and 206. I just couldn't find the motivation to stick with it. Then the first part of February I got the dreaded call that my Dad has cancer. When I got that news I fell completely off the wagon and I started eating like I wanted to get back to 341 as fast as possible. Then after a long weekend with family I decided I needed to quit a long habit I have had that we all know increases your risk for cancer. It wasn't smoking, but dang close, I was a long time tobacco chewer. As many of you know, especially those that have had the habit, it is a very oral addiction. I have been successful in my goal to quit that habit. But now I have also put on about another 12lbs in the 5 weeks since I quit. I decided I had to change things up to get back on task. I did a bunch of research last week and decided to ditch the costly Weight Watchers. Especially after researching MFP. When it comes to what I was using WW for, MFP had all the same things with out the cost and having to figure points. I got to thinking that it was probably time to learn how to diet in the real world without trying to calculate points.
So, I am just wrapping up my 3rd day using MFP and I am happy to say I finishing the day up under my daily calorie goal.
