The Little Things (Mom Stuff)

My baby thinks it's great to feed me. So occasionally I'll eat 3-5 goldfish or other finger food from her hands. Should I be concerned about those calories? It seems to little to even calculate. I'm not worried that it'll "add up" to a lot. We're talking maybe the equivalent of 10 goldfish a day. I'm just not keeping up with if it was 3 gold fish and 4 bunny grahams or 5 gold fish and 2 cereal flakes.

My kid does the same, to keep up with it and anything else I may forget to log during the day (3 chips etc.) I either reduce the number of calories my HRM says before I log it, or when I do log the accurate calories burned, I don't eat all of them back. At the worst I'm maintaining this way.

awwww....how sweet. No, I wouldn't log it....what i do to make up for the little things like that is park far away....or do an extra few laps around the office....you don't want your child growing up being paranoid about a few goldfish....

It's not a big deal, but you could try what I do. I quick add 50-100 calories at the start of my day every day. This ensures anything that goes into my mouth that I didn't cover (even if I did log the food item, there could still be a few stray calories) is accounted for.

One serving of goldfish is about 55 pieces and adds up to 140 calories. It's up to you if you count the 10, but that's about 20% of a serving so it would be around 28 calories. If you are always right up against your calorie goal then I would consider adding it, if you routinely are 100-200 calories below the goal then I think you are fine.

How sweet! Yesterday, my little girl shoved a whole pack of Easter egg gum (like the ones that come in the little plastic egg carton) in my mouth. I don't know if she was trying to be sweet or choke me, but I did throw a few extra calories on for my day to make up for it.

Try to enjoy the time with the kiddo without over analyzing it. Be in the moment. 10 goldfish crackers will NOT make or break your health/fitness goals. But, agonizing over it while you should just be enjoying those VERY fleeting "mommy moments" will steal joy from your life. My baby is almost 7 and I remember, with fondness, all those shared moments. Treasure them. Don't obsess!

My daughter does that too -- I don't take everything she tries to give me but I don't log it either. I'm logging to get to the point where I don't have to anymore. But my goal isn't to be a model either, just more comfortable in my skin, so your mileage may vary.
