Does anybody eat this way? if so how do you feel? in many ways it makes sense beside cutting out dairy. but on the other side the life expectancy was not long either in the early days,

i often joke about eating like Laura Ingles (sp?) but you didnt see many obese people in those days.

He has all the resources I'd recommend - and you don't have to be dairy-free.

I'm about 70% primal. I do have milk from time to time, but I try to get nearly all of my carbs from fruits and vegetables.

When I avoid grains, I feel better. Every body is different, but that's been my experience.

I know that when I avoid grains, especially processde kinds in breads (even the better organic and all natural breads) I feel much better. It is just really hard for me to do. I guess I need to get really inventive with food!

What do you guys eat to stay away from that stuff? I can stay away from bread, that isn't an issue, and even rice I can stay away from..but I guess I find that I am not full enough when I don't eat some kind of "white carb" with my food even though they are generally organic and mildly processed at best.

I had to wean myself off of grains. I got down to about a half cup serving of brown rice with meals, and then just left it off entirely. Every once in a rare while, I still have them. Part of the "primal" thing is that you aim for 80%/20%, allowing for the occassional "non caveman like" indulgence. I'm more like 70% 30%, but that's just what works for me.

There is also an idea called "slow carb" (instead of "no carb") that incorporates beans. Beans technically aren't primal, but I still include them from time to time. If you google "slow carb", you'll get lots of hits.

Also, I eat a LOT of vegetables with my meals. My plate is usually 2/3s to 3/4 veg, and then meat. I also will add nuts and oils. The fat content helps with the satiety levels. I'm not afraid to eat an avocado or a handful of nuts in my salad.

The Primal Blueprint is a good one, although much of the info is given for free on the website that Barneystinson gave the link for.

It's a pretty radical shift, but I was really suffering with psoriatic arthritis and in "I'll try anything" mode. I will say that I don't follow it as a gospel, I'm sure my workouts aren't technically "primal"...but I do a lot of them in weirdo barefoot shoes.

Experiment and find what works for you. Leave what doesn't. :flowerforyou:

there are so many factors that attract me to this way of life.
    acne issues
    depression and anxiety issues
    and stalled weight loss.

There is some allowance for starchy tubers (potatoes) but it depends on your personal carb needs. It's sort of a controversial topic in the primal / paleo world...

Good blog post about it here:

Potatoes (IMO) are great for carb re-feeds.

I am pretty sure I could live without rice and pasta...we don't eat much of it, except like today in sushi. Beans on the other hand...I don't think I could leave those out. We LOVE black beans.

It is good to know that the fats help keep a person fuller longer. I put 1/4 avocado in my smoothie this morning and it made the smoothie that much creamier, I could barely taste it... and now come to think of it, I didn't get hungry for about three hours. Huh!

I've got three avocados right now, so I think I will experiment with that this coming week and keep adding it to my smoothies in the morning and see how that goes.

I think I will do some more reading about this over the weekend.

so yesterday i did a partial day so to speak eating "primal" but to day i have done what seems to feel right.

got up at 7:30a (so not like me o m day off) made my first cup of coffee with honey(raw) but had my sugar free hazelnut creamer. started cleaning the house, wasnt hingry from my prime rib dinner last night. so i took a shower and went to the grocery store.

once i got back about 1pm i was hungry so i fried up 3 eggs with butter and some feta, and had a big cup of green tea. a few minutes later i had a 1/2 cup of blackberries and strawberries. yummy

dinner at 6 pm tukey sausage with peppers, onion, and mushrooms and olive oil. with wilted spinach.

went for a quick 2 mile run.

its now 7 and im feeling satisfied ans have only eaten 1100 calories so far, so i can have a nice snack in a few minutes.

i think i may like this. a little tuff to give up my frozen yogurt and coffee creamer but i will find some type of replacement im sure. i bought organic half and half today, i will try it out in the morning.
