During my recent trip to STL, I very much enjoyed a place in the Central West End called Fountains on Locust. Alcoholic Milkshakes... That's all I'm sayin! They have food too, but I wasn't really interested in that!0

Sweetie Pie's for macaroni and cheese & Ted Drews for frozen custard are classics. My favorite is just across the street from Ted Drews, called Aya Sofia. Great Mediterranean and Greek food. Best lamb shank you'll ever eat. Oh and Crown Candy for the worlds biggest BLT sandwich (8 oz. of bacon).0

I just moved in near St. Louis. I don't have any suggestions but I'm probably going to go to some places listed here. :>0

I haven't been in several years but Leclade's landing downtown had a lot of little joints to eat at. Nothin to die for but the atmosphere was nice.
no to lacledes landing just no. too dangerous lately0 -
what part of st louis? important to know!0

If anyone suggests Imo's Pizza, run away, run away fast. Places to check out: Central West End on Euclid between Delmar and Forest Park or the Delmar Loop in University City (where I live), the Hill is good for good authentic Italian. Someone mentioned Sweetie Pies. My new favorite restaurant is Crushed Red in the Clayton area just west of St. Louis, great salads and flat bread pizza.0

University City has a cool diner I think it's themed from BB King? Or some jazz player lol
White Castle is not all it's cracked up to be. Ate it and was totally disappointed.
Things to do: They have a casino.. wasn't much to me but I do live close to Vegas lol. The botanical gardens was really awesome (like 3rd best in the world), Mind as well see the arc and the rams stadium and University City was my favorite.. they were having some street festival at the time it actually reminded me of Santa Monica a little bit. Architecture is very nice too I didn't see a track home structure the entire time I was there lol0 -
I am from the area originally and I agree with several others...if you are going to be in the city you MUST go to "The Hill" and there are tons of good Italian restaurants, all very original and authentic. We like Cunetto's and Favazza's but there are SOOO many good ones, you can get on a good site like TripAdvisor and look them up. A neat and unique side trip is to go N of St. Louis on the Illinois side and drive up the River Road along the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers with the majestic bluffs towering over you. Still probably some Bald Eagles around to watch. And there is always plenty of river traffic. When you get to Grafton, IL there are several wineries, and the Fin Inn which has large aquariums full of native river fish, turtles etc. at each table.0

If you're going to the Busch Brewery, swing by Gus's to pick up a bag of some of THE BEST SOFT PRETZELS (outside of Philly, that is).0

Café Natasha on South Grand (Middle Eastern),
Pho Grand on South Grand (Vietnamese),
Gelateria Del Leone on South Grand (Desserts/Ice Cream),
City Diner on South Grand (Late night food),
Olympia Kebob House & Taverna in Dogtown (Greek),
McGurk's Irish Pub
Schlafly Tap Room
Dressel's Public House
Chris' Pancake House
Mango (Tapas)
Also check out The Grove area and City Museum (Which is not what you think of as a museum)0 -
I'm a sucker for great Italian food and BBQ, i'm just not sure I will be able to wait long enough or soon enough to get the BBQ you guys are suggesting, I really think I'm gonna try to get up to "The hill" and get a plate or two up that way. Also someone mentioned burger bar, the one I had at Mandalay Bay in Vegas was awesome so i'm always down for a good burger, Love the suggestions!0

Ok. Don't listen to most of these people. Imo's SUCKS. The Hill SUCKS, unless you can afford to go to Giovanni's. Believe me, I used to live there.
Here's where you go:
O'Connels for a burger
Pizza-A-Go-Go or La Pizza for pizza, duh
Mangia for Italian
MoMo's for Greek
Mango - definitely second vote for Mango, try their chicken soup OMG
Banh Mi So Number 1 for Vietnamese - the neighborhood sucks, but it's way better than Pho Grand, which is still good
Uncle Bills for breakfast - much better than Chris' seriously
Sub Zero for vodka, sushi, and fancy burgers - the celebs go there when in town (like Sting was just there)
Bar Italia if you want something different - it's Eritrean Italian
Companion for baked goods
Ted Drewes for frozen custard
Donut Drive-In if you like that sort of thing (LOL)
Edit: You can still get ribs at Pappy's around dinner time on a weekday. If you go at 11-ish on a weekend, you may have to wait in line, but not for nearly as long as if you go later. It's WORTH IT. GET RIBS.0 -
St. Louis native here.
Neighborhoods:
The Loop in University City (affectionately, "U City") for cool independent shops
The Central West End for more upscale cool.
Clayton, upscale, urban professional. I use the term "urban" loosely. Generally good food and nice central location if you're choosing a hotel. (If you can stay at the Seven Gables, they have freshly baked chocolate chip cookies.)
The Hill for Italian, but sorry, I can't remember the name of the best restaurant.
Pass on Laclede's Landing. Nothing too special there.
Food:
Ted Drewes frozen custard, a must. Seek it out.
Toasted ravioli, a must. Not sure why you can't find this everywhere in the world. It's so good.
Bar Italia, I second the vote for this
Blueberry Hill, great rock and roll themed bar in U City. Go for the ambiance and decor. (Plus they serve the aforementioned toasted ravioli) They card everyone. Everyone.
Fitz's Rootbeer, across the street from Blueberry Hill
Schafly's Tap Room, the sticky toffee pudding is to die for. I hear the beer is pretty good too.
Imo's is a tough one. I think you might need to be raised on it to appreciate the crispy gooeyness. Cracker-thin crust and provel is not for everyone.
Crown Candy, good old fashioned ice cream joint, but a bit out of the way.
Steak and Shake for fast food, outstanding french fries, crispy-thin burger patties.
Lion's Choice, more tasty fast food, paper-thin shaved roast beef.
Amaghetti's for their "special" sandwich.
I could go on and on. Clearly not the healthiest options, but oh so tasty. Worth the extra 10 mile run.
I almost forgot! Tis the season for fish fries! Find yourself a neighborhood church and order a basket of freshly fried fish made by the parish.
Have fun!0 -
Speaking of toasted ravioli (aka T-Ravs), the best place for those is Rich & Charlies. You can get them as a dinner with unlimited salad... good stuff... terrible for the waistline hahaha.0

yeah gotta be honest, especially as of late I'd avoid the Landing... ESPECIALLY after dark (2 murders in 2 weekends... yeah thanks but no thanks) Pappys is WELL worth the wait you'll have for it, Second on Crown Candy (go for the BLT, it's LOADDDDEDDDDD in Bacon). Depending on where your staying (downtown, West county, Clayton, etc... Mike Shannons would be great as well, also if you looking for more fresher foods, the Soulard Farmers Market, and YES if your going to be there over Friday you have got to enjoy one of the dozens, no more like hundreds of local fish fries going on across the metro.0

My neck of the woods, South Grand, South Grand, South Grand. Had many many meals at the City Diner!0 -
I definitely second (of sixth at this point...) Pappy's. Last time I was there was on a Sunday mid afternoon and there was hardly any wait.
I really suggest Baileys' Range, partly for the burgers, but primarily for their alcoholic milkshakes. They make their own ice cream in house, and it's delicious. And, perhaps most importantly, they come in pint glasses. Who's gonna turn down a pint of maker's mark, candied bacon, and salted caramel ice cream? Or tequila and three chili chocolate ice cream?
And then go to City Museum and work off the calories by playing on all the awesome structures and go down the ten-story slide.
Ok, I clearly need to hit up St. Louis again soon.0 -
Originally from the area and everyone's suggestions I would have to agree with.
You all are making me miss home!0 -
Went to Momoyama's for sushi this week. It was really good. But that's on the outskirts, in Chesterfield.0
