Hi There. I am tracking my calories to gain weight. I restarted my gain journey about 2 weeks ago and have had a little success. I notice when I add "unhealthy" options to my diet, I manage to gain weight. (The most Recent Picture of me Is the one with the curly hair and the dress- too thin, I know)
If you can give me tips and advice to gaining weight, I would be so happy. What are your favorite healthy foods?
Should I focus mostly on getting my calories right each day? Also is 2lbs a week good? I need to gain 15, maybe even 20 pounds. New Friends Welcomed.
Thank you!
Kara

Personally, I think you look fine... Unless you're underweight and have medical problems because of it, I don't see any reason why you'd need to gain, but I guess that's up to you in the end.
I wouldn't eat "unhealthy" food regardless of whether you're trying to lose or gain. You want to put on healthy weight, so you should eat healthy things! I'd try and stick to the food pyramid, and just increasing the quantity you're eating.
Also, putting on two pounds a week is a lot... Maybe go for 1 lb a week? If you gain more, then hooray, but if you don't, it's no big deal.
Good luck!0 -
Hey,
Gaining weight (healthily) is probably even harder than losing it. Aiming to gain 0.5lb a week is probably going to be more manageable.
I know it sounds silly, but if you treat it like weight loss in reverse (i.e. eat plenty of protein, healthy fats and vegetables, do some strength training to build lean body mass as well as some fat and go easy on junk food) then you'll end up with a much more satisfying outcome.
Always happy to have more friends with healthy goals. :-)0 -
I am always willing to help anyone that need it If you would like, go ahead and friend me
Edit: I also agree with special sundae You dont want to gain too quickly either. You need something more manageable0 -
I agree you do not look too skinny- but I would think adding some weight lifting would give you a toned look and help you gain muscle not fat. You would deff need to eat more to gain those muscles. Thats what I would do if I were you. & dont worry about getting bulky women do not have enough testosterone to do so.0

Just like losing weight takes time, so does gaining weight. Most people don't realize that. I have been on both sides so I know. I would focus on eating healthy but higher portion and you may want to supplement with a protein shake that is high in calories to help add bulk. Just like losing weight, you have to stick with it.
Also, you may want to start lifting weight that that would add definition and muscle tone.
Good luck0 -
You can add me if you want. I'm currently maintaining, but aiming to build more Lean Body Mass by weight training. I may or may not gain weight during this.
Do you want to gain weight and be skinny-fat? I know, dumb question. I'm trying to get RID of my skinny-fat.0 -
2lbs a week is too much IMO. That is 7000 calories extra or 1000/day. You don't have much to gain. I would aim for 0.5lb/week. Now that I am closer to my goal(losing) I changed my settings so I am losing 0.5lb/week max. When I had 130lbs to lose then 2lb/week was more attainable. It's the same for weight gain.0

New Rules of Lifting for Women is a great place to start. You definitely need to gain lean muscle mass in order to gain weight if you can't do it with diet alone. I don't recommend doing it with junk food, because that is likely just sodium triggered water retention and won't last. High protein is the way to go. Aim for just 1/2 lb per week, and get that book, get a gym membership and learn the lifting schedule in that book, it's awesome. By the way, you're gorgeous. Some more muscle will look fabulous on you!0

I think shooting for a lower gain per week makes sense, as everyone else is saying.
Some of my favourite calorie bombs? Avocados, anything involving coconut oil or coconut. Full fat organic dairy, ICE CREAM, real butter, home made egg/olive oil/lemon mayonnaise on burgers or used in salad dressings, tuna salad, etc. Super calorific! I love bacon. Nut and seed butters are great, lots of calories. Of course nuts/seeds too. I made a cobb salad last week that was around 1100 calories! Holy cow.
Lifting some heavy weights and avoiding cardio would be great for you, too.0 -
i think it has been covered but il put in my advice anyway. get a good isolate whey protein powder ( ebay has good ones ) and have that once a day, i would really incourage strength training as well because you may find that you are not " skinny " as such but just not toned up. i agree with everyone else in saying STOP THE JUNK FOOD all you are doing is putting bad fat around your heart, liver ect you can be thin on the outside but fat on the inside and it is just as unhealthy no matter what body weight you are. stick to lean meat, pasta, fruit and veggies but also add nuts. try to eat smaller meals but eat 6-8 times a day. also remember your yogurt. stay away from the processed foods and go fresh. and start moving your body to get those muscles working. goodluck. :flowerforyou:0

Thanks Ladies! I was just stagnant at one weight for weeks and was resorting to junk food. Now that my head is screwed on right, again, I will keep gaining, but with healthy options again like fruit smoothies and lean protiens. I like the idea of Gaining the same way as Losing.
I think I got the 2 lbs a week from when I had to diet. I know the slower you lose/gain weight, the more solid it is.
Taking it to heart
