I use this website http://www.freetrainers.com/. You can customize a workout for you situation. IE if you are working out at home or a gym etc.

You will get the most out of compound lifts. Look into starting strength, strong lifts 5x5 or the new rules of lifting for women.

I've started new rules of lifting for women and I'm really enjoying it - there are a few groups that you could check out to get peoples opinions

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/102-new-rules-of-lifting-for-women-nrol4w

    and for stronglifts

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/4601-stronglifts-5x5-for-women

Also a general group for people who want to lift and eat more

I'm doing new rules of lifting for women and it's working great so far, it starts with beginning level stage 1, so it'll be fine for you, you choose your weights, just make sure you're lifting as heavy as you can whether that is 5 lbs or 50 lbs, as long as it's as heavy as you can, and move up the weights when you switch reps (it starts at 15, then goes to 12, 10 so you want to go up on weight every time it switches)

there are forums on here that have before and after NROL pictures

When I was starting I purchased the NROL4W book and well after reading it, it seemed too complicated. I started stronglifts instead and love it.

I've bought the New Rules book but can't afford to buy a barbell yet (or have the space where I live). As such, I'm using dumbbells I already have with this routine: http://produmbbellworkouts.com/dumbbell-routines/full-body-high-volume/

I've found it really simple, has links to videos and is really changing my bodyshape in just a few weeks already. I just make sure I pick up the heaviest dumbbells I can manage!

    good info here

My question is this, hope someone can answer :

When doing strength exercises at home, are you best working certain body parts each day or is it better to do an entire body workout?
ie one day is legs, then arms, then abs/core etc etc ( not necessarily in that order) and if so should they be done in a certain order?

I want to start strength training at home, at the moment I have dumb bells only but with a variety of plates so I can change the weights. I just have no idea how to put together a plan. I do Muay Thai on mondays and fridays but am still new to that !

    thanks

I believe most people will say that as a beginner it is best to do a full body workout 3 days a week, no need to make it overly complicated. Compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, chest press etc. Check out some of the links I posted higher up for some good ideas.

I like jillian michaels no more trouble zones.its those type of exercises. Works entire body and you use 3 lb weights.
  • I like the "Scooby" page. It is down to earth, can be done at home and doesn't cost a ton to set up, and it is very functional. Plus, the whole website is free and loaded with good solid info.

    Good luck!
