Injured with Personal Trainer

This afternoon I had my 5th session with my PT. I warmed up for 12 minutes on the treadmill. We we then did one leg sit-stands (2*15, each leg). This is a sit stand: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5prcMaZzhs

Next we did lunges on the smith machine. I am unsure why, but we do a different kind of lunge every workout. For the first set we did 15 per leg. My legs were tired from the sit-stands but I was okay. She then added 20lbs to the bar. I preformed the lunges with my left leg back for 15. When I switched to my right leg back, I got to 3 and on the way up I felt the strangest "uncoiling" feeling. It hurt but felt more unnatural than painful. Has this ever happened to any of you? Any suggestions or ideas as to what this could be?

The muscle felt pulled and there seems to be a lump. It seems to be near my hip flexor/upper quad area. It still hurts.
They had me stretch and foam roll to no avail. They will not see me again until I bring a doctor's note.

:noway: gosh, that sucks. I guess you have no other choice but to see a doctor. That isn't very helpful, is it? :ohwell:
    Hope you get better soon.

You can tear the muscle and it will lump up like that. If that is the case, I am surprised it did not hurt. You should see a doctor . . . . and a new trainer?

It does hurt but it is not excruciating. I am going to the doc tomorrow. Thanks:smile:

Yes, I'll let you know. It just really enrages me because I hired a PT because I didn't want to injure myself!! :explode:

Injuries happen, you can have the best trainer in the world doing the safest exercises with perfect form and you are still liable to get injured, hope things turn out to be okay!

The verdict is that I have a strained iliopsoas muscle and need to stop exercing that region for atleast 2 weeks. I will make sure that I warm up more next time and maybe stretch some more in between sets whether the trainer likes it or not. However, my arms, back, and core will be shown no mercy!!:drinker:

Does anyone think that so many lunges and squats back to back was a bad idea?

Lunging on a smith machine sounds like a really awful idea. There's no way that doesn't mess with your natural biomechanics.

    Ugh find a new trainer.

Lunging on a smith machine is the dumbest ****ing idea ever.

    She's a nit wit- I''d be PISSED.

(I'd like to echo exercise can get you injuries- even if you are doing it perfectly- BUT doing what you were doing- was ASKING for it)

Thanks. I thought the same thing and should have trusted my instincts.

That's good news :indifferent: I suppose it could've been worse. I expect it was from over use, so I guess it's logical to assume the lunges and squats back to back in hindsight (enough disclaimers there? ) could be to blame.

I'm glad you weren't hurt too badly :flowerforyou: feel better

I do epic lunges squats and tuck jumps and all sorts of super leg heavy workouts- significantly more intense than lunges on a smith machine- back to back to back.

that's not the issue and shouldn't scare you from doing multiple leg exercises.
