I want to get a HRM, but I'm not sure what brand is best. I'm on a tight budget, so I'm looking for a decent one around $50 or less. In an ideal world, it would be GPS capable and water proof for swimming. I know the GPS function will probably put it way out of my price range... I did a little shopping around today and saw several in my price range, but I don't want to buy a piece of junk. I just need to keep better track of calories burned during my workouts so I can eat them back (I want to maintain my weight). Suggestions of specific models or brands? Where to buy one (I'm thinking Amazon)?

I'm not sure about which ones are the best, but I got one from walmart today for $29. I'm on a budget as well and the only other one my Walmart had was $87. It is a Sportline S7 slim Heart rate monitor + Calorie monitor.
this is it, but it was a lot cheaper at walmart:

I got one made by Timex at Best Buy, it was relatively cheap and I love it so far!

I saw that one today while I was out shopping, and I am thinking about getting it. I really like the price!! I saw a couple others at another store that were $25-$30 that were a different brand from the Wal-Mart one. I over analyze eveything and feel the need to research a ton before I make an investment (even if it is only $30)! In the end, I'll most likely head back to Wal-Mart to get the HRM I can afford :)

I don't have a Best Buy in my town, but I'll look up some Timex ones on Amazon. Timex seems like a trustworthy brand. Plus, my dad always wore Timex watches when I was a kid :)

I would highly recommend to buy a POLAR from bodytronics.com I bought one right before Christmas and I looove it!! I paid about $60.00 but if you look on retailmenot.com you can probably find a coupon code there. I did! Free Shipping you will get too!!!
  • Wow, you mean I'm not the only one on a budget?? lol I would be interested in keeping in touch about the HRM you pick. I'm not sure I'd like one that you have to wrap around your chest (but not sure I can find a relatively inexpensive one that will give a continuous rate that will just fit around your wrist). Please keep in touch and let me know what you find or recommend.

    Thanks

Garmin is fantastic! Their forerunner 10 has gps but it runs around $100. IF you really want gps, I would hold out til your budget was bigger.
