The dreaded white stuff!!

Hiya,
Just joined mfp recently and still getting to grips with a few things so any advice would be appreciated.
My daily allowance is 1200 cals and 24 sugar (grams I take it?). Anyway the problem I have found so far is I must be eating a lot more sugar than I first thought.
My breakfast today for example is 45g all bran red berries which I thought was relatively healthy but has 7g sugar, even the 1% fat milk (100g) has 5??
I have now used half my sugar allowance on breakfast. Was going to have tomato soup for lunch but that is laden with the stuff.
Think I may have to change my breakfasts. I usually add in another 100g milk for tea/coffee etc for throughout the day so this would be nearly half my allowance on milk alone. Does this seem right? What can I do to cut down the sugar and still have low cal meals?
Confused much!!

The sugar allowances on here are a joke. I'd just stay with "healthy" sugars such as from fruit and stay away from processed sugar.0

You can manually adjust your daily allowances on calories, sugar, carbs, etc. When I first started I was going over my sugar just from fruit and milk. I was also way low on my calories (it set me at 1500). I did a TDEE calculation and have been losing on average over a pound a week on 1800 + exercise calories. If you want to keep your sugar listed just so you're aware of your intake that's great but the default number is rediculously low.
ETA: You can give even give yourself sweet (or salty) treats as long as you eat less calories than your body uses everyday.
Just curious, have you calulated your TDEE or are you using the number MFP set you at?0 -
I don't want to say ignore it....but really ignore it. Healthy sugars from fruit and veg are ok! It's the processed sugars you should watch out for. I personally allow myself a little bit of sugar for coffee, but that is because I'm not a sweetener person. Stevia is the only sweetener I'll use but it tastes dreadful in coffee. It's the same with carbs. There are healthy carbs like veg and fruits....then the evil carbs like processed white bread. Everything is ok in moderation, but just don't over do the processed stuff, if possible. I find it hard sometimes as well, but when you cook your meals from scratch it helps cut down on those things.0

MFP set me at 1200 cal a day, which was way too low! I was always starving! I suggest figuring out your Basal and Resting Metabolic Rates (a number of sites will do it for you, I used www.caloriesperhour.com)
I agree with others, as long as you are eating healthy fruits and vegs, and moderate sugar....don't fret too much on the number.0 -

Just count overall carbs and don't worry about sugar intake. Unless you have diabetes, it's a non issue.0

Is TDEE the same as BMR? my BMR is 1,547 according to this and have been set at 1200 per day. Thanks for everyones advice. Any idea what a more realistic sugar limit should be?0
