Small Success!

Admittedly, I've been frustrated with this process! I started focusing on better eating habits and intense exercise a little less than a month ago, and I think I had fallen victim to 'wanting too much too soon.' I think we all have a tendency to get into these types of ruts every once in awhile, especially when we have worked so hard to achieve our goals.
Two weeks ago, I took my waist (35 inches) and hip (45 inches) measurements. I made it my goal to at least check my measurements every two weeks to see if any progress was gained because I have such a hate/hate relationship with the scale. In fact, I had decided from the beginning that I would avoid the scale like the plague because it always brings me down.
Today was my two weeks mark to check my measurements. I almost didn't do it because this past week has been very difficult for me. I hadn't been tracking my food, and while I really had not eaten badly at all, I had fallen behind on my exercise...and celebratory St. Patrick's Day 'spirits' I'm sure didn't factor too favorably for me. But I did the measurements nonetheless.
To my astonishment, I found I have lost 1.5 inches from my hips. My waist measurements remained level, but I'm extremely pre-menstrual (sorry, I know - TMI), so I'm not really beating myself up.
I guess my point is that this very small success has re-energized me and I'm now back to feeling like getting fit is a truly doable thing, even as difficult as it can be. You always hear that getting healthy is not a sprint race - it's a marathon. There will be peaks and valleys. But it's attainable. Because of this, I'm back to religiously tracking my food and recommitted to begin exercise after a few days of slacking.
A small success is still progress! Don't quit!
