Hi - I am nearing my goal weight and it seems I am hitting a plateau. Anyone have any suggestions on how to break the plateau ? I have about 5 more pounds to lose. My calorie intake varies between at goal or less than goal daily and I exercise just about every day. Some days I am quite significantly under calorie goal (200+) - only once in 30 days I went over goal. Any suggestions ?

You can not, no one can, ever stay at an exact weight. You should be shooting for a weight range. If you are 5 pounds from where you would like to be then you are likely in a perfect range. Just keep doing what you have been doing and don't stress over it much.

It's possible that since you are so close to your goal you need to eat more, especially if you are plateaued. Change your settings to losing .5lb/ week. Don't go under your calorie goal, it won't help. Be patient.

I read about by Chris Powell who is a celebrity type trainer. He recommends to actually beef up your calories for a week or two when you hit a plateau and to work out substantially less (assuming you're working out a few days per week already). In simple terms (because I dont have the exact wording) it forces your body to adjust and start burning again, which then should see the weight come off. I'd imagine this is a great method based on what I've read elsewhere, and by other members of MFP. I would just recommend not to weigh yourself every day, maybe once in the week or once in two weeks to see if the weight has dropped. Although, I do agree with tkdkjudodad, that if you're within 5lbs of your goal weight, consider yourself there. We can all fluctuate 5lbs in a day.
