Not going to make my goal date..

So i'm aiming to lose 90 lbs by Decemeber 2013. I started my weight loss program July 2012 but it was really relaxed until the beginning of January. I've lost 20 lbs so far at a plan to lose 2 lbs per week. I"m so behind on my goal and i'm scared that i'm not going to make it to my goal date.. i'm 13 lbs from what i planned i would be to be able to make it. I've upped my workout plan by getting up early and runnig on my treadmill for 15 mins every morning. Do you think that will help? Because i'm a part time student and I work full time at a desk job my week is really full and hard to get a really good workout. but i eat really healthy.. Is december to short to expect myself to be at my goal weight? i'm loseing a average of 1.5 lbs a week.. and just worried i know how hard it is to lose weight when once get closer to your goal.. i'm scared I'll get pissed off and give up. Can anyone give me advice?

Why do you have a time frame on your weight loss? Personally, I would get rid of the timeframe and get it done as it gets done.

Regardless of how good you are with diet and exercise you may not be able to lose 2lbs each and every week. Weight loss is not linear and the closer you get to your goal the slower the weight will come off.

Take the time frame off and just focus on short term goals. Far too often we set goals too high and than get discouraged and quit when we don't reach our goals. Don't have a date set when you want to have lost your weight by. Just focus on an overall downward direction of your weight loss.

Do not worry about tomorrow, or next month...focus on today. Do your best TODAY! 13 lbs does not equal failure. The point is you will be 75(ish) closer then you were when you started, right!?!? 75 lbs is amazing! Plus, you will have a lot of NSV's to focus on too, don't worry about the scale!

This is a journey not a race. You are doing a great job! You did not gain this 90lbs in one year so don't be so hard on yourself! Keep up the good work and stick to the journey. This rate you are losing seems pretty healthy & you will probably be more likely to keep it off because you are being attentive and thoughtful about the journey! Keep it up and REJOICE IN YOUR SUCCESSES!!

IMO, keep shooting for the goal. Obstacles happen and strong people find a way to push past them. It builds confidence. Can you achieve it? Won't know until it comes, but till then just work it like you're supposed to.

I have a goal weigh lost, but no time frame to do it in. And thank God I didn't! After losing the first 50 pounds in 9 months or so with increased exercise and modifying my current diet (everything in moderation so I don't feel deprived), I started losing really slowly. It took 3 months to lose the next 10 pounds and now I have just been the same for over a month. I'm not giving up. I haven't even considered it. I know I am doing the right thing, I know the last 30 will still come off eventually, but if I put some deadline on it, I might as well quit now.

Focus on smaller goals again with no time frame. Realize weight loss is not linear...you are most likely not going to lose 2 pounds each week until you reach goal no matter how perfect your food and exercise is.

Patience is the key and you will be much happier with LOTS of it. Good luck!
  • it depends on why you set that particular date. Is it written in pencil or permanent marker?

I say that because you've already implied you're afraid you'll give up if you don't make it.

Have you set mini goals for yourself- as well as the END one?

How do you respond to them?

If you haven't done so, set small ones. Ones you can achieve.
It encourages you, and motivates you to set them, make them, and they become the series of hurdles
you overcome that drive you to KEEP going.

And, revise your list of motivating factors to include a few things that are not emotionally driven
(not that those are *wrong* at all- but emotionally driven ones can also serve as the DEmotivators as well...and send us
in the opposite direction if we *fail*)

Add some things that will be anchors to you- like your overall HEALTH....to have more energy, etc.
those kinds of things will help hold you down when you *feel* like giving up and jumping off the wagon.

BEST WISHES to you in this. Make this a journey of life that you will be able to follow the rest of your life.
That's the key to keeping it OFF once you do lose it.

Averaging 1.5 lbs. per week is phenomenal!

It doesn't sound like your goal was ever realistic, as it didn't account for plateaus, or the fact that weight loss will slow down as you get closer to your goal.

Instead of a timed weight loss goal, start setting fitness and nutrition goals. First, work on extending your workouts to half an hour, then, work on going faster. Eventually, you should also add in some strength training.

Are you eating at least five servings of fruits and veggies a day? Do you need to make a goal to limit sugar? Eat more protein?

It is ok to have a goal of 90lbs to lose. You need to get rid of the deadline/timeline factor of it all. That part is unrealistic. Keep eating right and anything you lose is a success. Some weeks may be better than others so the timing will be hard to predict. If you start getting anxious about time and not losing enough it may sabotage your ultimate goal---to lose 90 lbs. It will be a lot easier without the time restraint.

My advise is quit focusing on a arbitrary number on the calendar. Take one day at a time, make that day awesome, focus on health, well-being and fitness. It's a lifestyle...it doesn't end with a date on the calendar.

I too have a goal weight date, but I know it's likely going to change. I only set it because I created an Excel spreadsheet to chart my progress and I needed an end date at some point! I have 66 pounds left to go and I want to get there by the end of September 2015. That's half a pound a week.

When I get fixated on a specific number on the scale or a specific weight deadline, I get counter-productive. I try to re-focus on what I am doing right everyday and remind myself that ANYTHING I do today (eat right, exercise, etc) is progress when compared to when I was engaging in out-of-control eating and a couch potato lifestyle.

Right now I'm trying to get to 217lbs. I have been stuck at 218 for weeks (ok, maybe 10 days) but I KNOW if I keep doing what I did to lose the previous 14lbs, I WILL lose pound #15.
