New, Recently Diagnosed with PCOS, Trying Paleo

Options
Hi Everyone!

I am new to all this! I am 27 years old, married almost 2 years. I just recently got diagnosed with PCOS after I had a 3 week period, told my doctor I had been off BC for 6 months and haven't gotten pregnant. We aren't TTC, but it was odd that it hadn't happened anyways.

My motivation for losing weight is the fact that this will prevent me from ever getting pregnant. I read an article recently citing that the Paleo diet has had a good impact on people with PCOS, so I thought I'd try it.

My thoughts so far?

Its complicated, haha, and expensive, but two weeks in and I'm 3 lbs down, so I feel like I should see where this train leads me.

Disclaimer: its really not THAT much more expensive, from what I see. I dont spend all that money on grains, cheeses, milk, etc, so I just redirect my budget toward meats and vegetables, but it is a bit expensive.

Connect with me if you want, I would love to talk about the adjustments necessary (coming to grips with the "I" word has been a struggle for me), or if you are trying the paleo thing, I would be interested to see what the impact has been on your PCOS and ability to conceive. Eventually I would like to conceive, so I figure I might as well start figuring this out now, haha!

Thanks!

    Dear fellow Cyster,

Hi I am 30 and newly diagnosed with PCOS also (last week) but have also being diagnosed with Crohns disease 4 yr ago...I suspect I have had both for much longer.

I have been TTC since Sept 12 when I came off the pill which I took for 13 years to control acne and periods. I had monthly AF up until we got pregnant in march but I miscarried at 5 weeks.

I have not had a cycle since the miscarriage so I self referred to a Gynae specialist and REI after my GP did nothing but said to wait. Sure enough I saw two very cystic ovaries on the scan and I knew what they would be looking like on the inside.

That scared the s$%t out of me to have another medical problem and now I just have to be extra careful with my diet, so started Paleo on Sunday. I don't have much hope of having a baby any more without IVF, but will start clomid soon once I get rid of my 15lb overweight. I'm scared of becoming a diabetic and being a nurse my brain goes into overdrive with all the obstetric compilcations that may result -ugh!

Try ordering book: the patients guide to PCOS, its quite good reading. Even though it has a bit about pregnancy chances being good I struggle with this concept as I feel the Crohn's drugs don't help me either.

I hope you can conceive in the future and all the best with the Paleo diet.

    Cheers K ;-)
