How much is too much?

I've started running (jogging really) since like forever. Today I jogged for 50 minutes, 25 in the morning, 25 at night.

I could feel the muscles in my lower leg start feel overused.

So the question, how much is too much when first starting out?

    Seems like 50 minutes is awfully long to jog when starting out. I alternate running/jogging and walking every 5 minutes. In the end, I end up jogging for 20 minutes. Each week I add another 5 minutes.
