I have a question on the measurement of spaghetti noodles.. I don't own a food scale yet, hoping for one soon.. On the box it says that a serving size is 2 oz uncooked. I googled it and it said that it equals about 1 cup cooked noodles. Tonight I scanned a box from a different brand then I normally use and it said 2 cups were a severing but on the box it said the same "2 oz uncooked" SOOO my question is what is a serving of cooked spaghetti?

2 ounces per serving is standard for pasta. How many people are you cooking for? 2 ounces of uncooked spaghetti is fairly easy to estimate. Empty a 1 pound box into your two clean hands. Divide back and forth until the amount in your hands feels even. Now you have 8 ounces in each hand. Put the spaghetti in one hand back in the box. Divide the spaghetti left in your other hand between both hands until it feels even. 4 ounces in each hand. If you're cooking for two, that's perfect. If it's just for yourself, put one hand's worth back and divide the remainder again and you'll have 2 ounces.
Yeah, having a scale is easier. But this will work until you get one.0 -
food scales are the best! I got a really cheap one at Aldi a few months ago for about $15, so keep an eye peeled. If we're talking 2 oz of uncooked spaghetti, if you circle your thumb and forefinger around it, it should be around the diameter of a nickel, give or take a few strands.0

I'm cooking for a family of 4 when I make it so neither of these options are something I can do. I have a 4 year old that eats very little and a teenager that eats me out of house and home so just giving equal portions doesn't work either..0

2 oz's uncooked which makes approx 1 cup cooked. The shapes of the different pastas takes up different volume, some more some less, but 1 cup is safe for an estimate cooked.0

I agree, having weighed dry pasta and measured cooked pasta. 1 cup cooked is about right for a serving, especially if it's noodles or elbows that don't leave much space in between. I got my scale at WalMart for under $20. I've used it endlessly.0

well, then take your cooked spaghetti, put it a 1 cup measure, and that's what you eat!0
