How will drinking protein shakes be beneficial for me

To give you a feel of what my activity is like I am doing Insanity (6 days a week 45-60 mins) and I'm on my 7th week. I'm going as hard as I can. I do not have a heart rate monitor so I wouldn't be able to tell you sorry, but I do sweat through the whole work out. I'm planning on continuing doing Insanity even after my 60 days are finished. So far I have not lost any weight I'm still the same I fluctuate from 145 - 148lbs but I have lost inches I can fit into my old jeans without a muffin top or love handles. I eat cleaner no more junk food, haven't had a taste for that in years anyway, and my biggest one of all no more snacking I haven't snacked since I started insanity.

My boyfriend drinks Muscle Milk and he suggested that I should drink some type of protein drink too, but I have no idea on where to begin with that. I was thinking about drinking GNC Lean Shake since I'm just trying it out and its pretty reasonable right now. Here is my goal weight 115 or 120 after I want to tone, but not get bulky.

So my question is mainly, how will it benefit me with my workouts?
Will it help me get to my goal?
When is the best time to drink it?
Will it make me get fat from it?
