Can't exercise, how do I lose weight?

Options
I have severe back pain most of the time and my doctor has yet to find a solution... he's working on it. But in the meantime I am not supposed to exercise except for a little mild walking and I am on only 1200 calories. How am I supposed to lose weight? I feel very depressed about this as I want to lose about 40 lbs.

watch your calories and carb intake .. AMP UP THAT PROTEIN! you can lose weight without exercise , all exercise does really is define the body and build endurance and strenght, at least in my eyes.

What about exercise in the water?? When my mum broke her ankle she was the same , couldn’t find anything to do but said that the water was great as its still resistance against the water but better for your joints as no weight bearing?? Hope this helps.

I suggest looking into a keto diet. I lost about 15lbs before I even started exercising. I never feel deprived of food and I eat around 1200 a day. Some people love it (like me) some people hate it. But there is a lot of information available if you are interested. It's high fat, low carb.

Don't be discouraged. Exercise is not a requirement for losing weight. 1200 calories is a low enough calorie intake to lose weight. Stick with it for at least 3 months and be as accurate as possible with how many calories you drink and eat each day and you will see weight loss. You can do this!

    Just maintain a calorie deficit.

    Limiting carbs is unnecessary.

I have been similar in means of cant exercise as much, hurt my ankle and have severe stomach pains. Going for a swim always helps though try that - and remember its 80% diet , 20% exercise so if you eat well you should still lose the weight!

You can get most of the way through diet alone. It's possible that losing some weight will help with your health problems as well, but if you stick to a good diet and as much exercise as you can manage, even if it's just walking, you will get there. It's about perseverance and slowly getting to the place you want to be.

    Caloric deficit.
Eat nutritient dense foods instead of junk foods to sustain that deficit and actualy dont feel like you are starving and you should be golden . I do believe swimming tho is not only possible with severe back pain but should be beneficial to your back :). Ofcourse consult your doctor before dashing off to water :)

Your aim is to loose weight, that is done with eating less calories than you spend. Sure , work outs would help with that, but only help. Focus on healthy clean diet now and ask yer doctor about swimming :)

just eat less then you need for your daily expenditure and you will lose weight. you may lose muscle (specially with inactivity) too but you will lose weight.

exercise is just a bonus to increase the aerobic and muscles which help increase the motabolism. but like sarahf3092 said Diet is the majority of the fight against weight gain or the fight for weight loss..

but surely you need to exercise your back or it will not get better same with any injury if you just do nothing you'll lose muscle and the area will get worse, not better, consult a specialist at the very least.

You will lose weight eating 1200 calories. Your body burns more than that just sitting around on your butt all day. It will be a little slower than if you were actively exercising and burning calories, but you'd also need to eat more than 1200 calories if you were exercising.

Weight loss happens in the kitchen. Fitness happens at the gym.

Fix your back, then worry about fitness.

    Hey there,

there is a thing that you maybee had heared of. Its called Starvation Mode. Easy and clean... if you eat too less calories your body will modify and store these calories in your body.

I would suggest 2 things. First of all calculate your income and outcome (as you do on myftnesspal 8-) ). Just check these site to get your calorie intake -> http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/
Don´t go under your Basal metabolic rate !!!!!!! You need that calorie intake to SURVIVE. Don´t go under that. You shouldn´t be starving.

    2. Actually there is a bunch of fitness and diet trainers out there. The one who helped me the most was Tom Venuto. You can see him on youtube or on his website. And for the starvation response just check this link -> http://www.burnthefatblog.com/archives/2012/12/starvation-mode-revisited.php

    Cheers.

Add me if you want as a friend.

Hi, I agree with the other posters, just keep dieting at 1200 calories concentrate on one day at a time, the weight will come off and hopefully as you get lighter you will see an improvement in your back pain. How about a short walk local to where you live for half an hour? ask your doctor for his opinion on what would be acceptable
