Insanity vs. Turbo Fire

Hello Everyone, I am in the second last week of Insanity and I already completed Turbofire. I find Turbo Fire to be more effective. What do you think?

I only did Turbofire and had amazing results.Lost 33 lbs and lot of inches also i toned up. I believe Insanity as i seen it and did some classes is the ultimate dvd program. I know a lot of ppl that did Insanity and lost many lbs and had amazing results. I will do it in summer and see...i have to see my self!

I've been doing TurboFire for 2 1/2 years now, usually combined with other strength training. Right now I am combining it with Les Mills Pump and Les Mills Combat. I just started the Combat in December. It wasn't until after I started Combat that I felt stronger all over (leg strength, posture, core and balance) and the TurboFire workouts have become pretty easy, the jumps are easy, the HIITs are easier, etc. I have a goal that after I max myself out on Combat and Pump and can complete all of the TurboFire workouts with ease, I am going to do Insanity. I want to be able to do it well and get great benefits from it, but I know it will leave me something new to work harder for and a different level of fitness to achieve. That said, TurboFire is my favorite workout...I love Chalene Johnson, she's a very motivating instructor! I'm going to miss the TF workouts, but I'm feeling ready for a new challenge and I'm hoping Insanity will be the next phase for me!!

Haven't tried TF yet as I jumped right into Insanity. So far I have lost 3 pounds in the first 2 weeks.I have since had to increase my calories a bit because I am on maintenance and not trying to lose weight.

Do whatever works best for you.

I love turbofire! It's FUN!!!! So, when I need a pick-me-up workout, I turn to Chalene. Great HIITs too.

Insanity is wonderful too. Just a different style. More gym coach style.

TurboFire is nothing but cardio. Insanity incorporates bodyweight-based strength training as well, which is going to produce different results. As far as it being more effective goes, well, by what measure? Something that is nothing but cardio will produce different results from something that incorporates resistance training.
  • I always check out this website before starting a new fitness program - www.topfitnesssites.com - My personal favourite is p90x because it's hard enough that you know your getting results but not so hard that you give up after a few days

I find insanity is better for toning and losing inches.
Turbo Fire is better for over all weight loss

Thank you all for your responses.

It is true that Turbo Fire is great for over all body shape. It does have some strength workouts with bands. Also, Turbo Fire schedule is 20 weeks compared to 8 weeks of Insanity. That could be another reason.

I have been gaining weight with Insanity, hopefully in muscles as my clothig size has not changed, but fits more snuggly around shoulder (too many pushups?). Even though, they are both cardio workouts, my heart rate shoot up in no time with Insanity. I have to stop in the middle many times because of that while doing Insanity.

    Thanks again! Love MFP peeps!!

Weight gain when starting a plan that involves any form of higher intensity resistance training is inevitable. It is fluid retention caused by the body repairing damaged muscles. The work you do with bands in TurboFire isn't resistance training along the lines of the bodyweight work you do in Insanity. So yes you will lose more SCALE weight with TF but more FAT with Insanity, and to be perfectly honest you shouldn't be concerned with SCALE weight. That being said I am not a fan of either of these programs. I think you would get much better results doing a program that revolves primarily around resistance training with a few cardio days thrown in just to supplement it.
