Metformin and Provera

My doctor started me on metformin and provera about 3 days ago for insulin resistance and fertility. I've noticed that when I take it, if I eat unhealthy foods I get really sick. However, if I eat healthy whole foods, I can go all day with it and never get sick. It takes away a lot of my appetite too... But still, it does make me sick from time to time. Is it worth it? Has anyone had any luck on it? I'm mainly taking it so that I can finally ovulate and bring a child into this world when the time is right.

When I started on it in 2006 for my PCOS, I lost 20 lbs the first 6 months without trying to diet or exercise. Not everyone has those results though. It gave me more energy too. I first started on fortamet which has fewer gastro side effects. But my insurance now has me on generic metformin and I do have some diarrhea on that. For me? Totally worth it. I was able to get pregnant using only the metformin. I stayed on it during all three of my full term pregnancies. My first pregnant he had me stop the metformin at 8 weeks and I lost the baby the week after. Not sure if that was why, but he kept me on it during my last three.

I had a similar experience on Metformin, though I take the time-release version, which is much easier on your GI tract. It's called Glumetza here in Canada. I have PCOS and insulin resistance. When my Endocrinologist put me on 2000mg/day, I lost about 20lbs (unheard of for me!) during the first 3 months I was on it. It also helped me control my acne and hirsutism.

Metformin, coupled with "smart eating" and regular exercise, has really been a life-changing thing for me!
