Hi there,
I just started working out at the end of January. I have been paying YMCA membership since 2008, but I've never really used it until recently. Without getting too personal, I recently discovered a very strong reason to get in shape, on top of health concerns (my cholesterol level is very high).
The weight I started with was 175 lbs, which is considered overweight for a 5'8" guy like me, but not overly so. Still, I have an unsightly beer gut and love handles on the side, and I have moved up one pants size since 2008 (and close to gaining one more size up). My target is 164 lbs for the moment, which would put me just within 'normal' range BMI.
I have been attacking the gym with a vengeance in the past several weeks. I'm training for 5K using an iPhone app, I take swimming lessons every monday, I do weight training, and also attend a couple of Yoga classes a week. All and all I visit the Y at least 4 days a week.
So far I have lost 5 lbs, but I promise myself that I'm not gonna stop until I see six-pack abs. A glance at the mirror tells me that it's gonna be a long journey, but I'm up for it. At least today my hip is wider than my belly (from the front), which it hasn't been in ages.
The missus is a regular gym rat who at one point was preparing to compete in a bodybuilding event, so she has been helpful with supplying tips and other valuable information.
Feel free to get in touch if you're in the area, or even if you don't.
Good luck to us all.
