I have knock knees. Once I realized that, I noticed that my mom also has knock knees...why no doctor ever noticed this as I was growing up, I will NEVER know. I myself only realized 2 years ago after chronic knee pain during my half marathon training. 2 years of chronic pain later, and I am gonna start some strength training in hopes that it can help address this issue.
My pain is in my L knee, which is the MORE "angled-in" of my two knees...
I've read that they are more common in overweight persons, so though maybe other MFPers have them too?
Those of you who do have knock knees:
--Did u have surgery? Use a brace?
--One knee more "knocked" than the other?
--PT exercises worked to address?
--Have u still been able to do regular running, jumping, Zumba, etc
--Hereditary?
--Strength training help?
--Shoes, shoe insert, deliberate changes to your gait?
--Knee angle gets better with significant weight loss?

knock knees: an angle whereby, when you stand with your knees together, your ankles CAN NOT touch. so, u cannot touch your ankles without bending legs. also called a "Q angle"...genus valgus...

If it's not too serious, you can strengthen the abductors and external rotators of the hip.
Putting an exercise band around your thighs, and doing side shuffles is an good exercise. Cook lifts are another good exercise.0 -
My sister has something like this. I tried to get her to do a deadlift and her legs looked like this X
Her physio recommended strengthening exercises around the joint (standard physio advice for everything) and some proper orthotic insoles in the shoes, to stop her ankles turning in.0 -
Have you ever tried a custom orthotic or a heel lift?0

I have them. I had pain in my right knee only, went to a doctor and he gave me a knee brace to use. I only use it when I have pain. Mostly they don't even bother me. I'm interested to see what kind of exercises are recommended for them though.0

I have knocked knees.... always have and they have never bothered me. I have been running for the past 2 years but was always active before that too. No one has ever noticed but my knees touch and ankles don't unless I have my legs bent at an angle.
Sorry this wasn't much help.0 -
I have knock knees, never knew I had them until a few years ago my doctor noticed, I have pain in both knees. I also have osteo-arthritus in my knees so not sure which is causing the pain, I can't run because of the pain :grumble: and do strength exercise for my knees.0
