It's Been A Loooong Time...

I haven't bothered to count calories or pay much attention to my fitness (or lack thereof) for awhile. I've been vegan for about 5 years. While that keeps me from becoming overweight (by BMI standards), I am preparing for my first state pageant and looking to lose 10 vanity pounds and get in better shape. I have a desk job and lead a pretty sedentary life. My diet is pretty healthy to begin with, but I have a soft spot for drinking large quantities of cheap beer, and occassionally I slide back into the binge eating habits of my "well-rounded" childhood ;-)

My goals are small and quite realistic. I'm trying to eat around 1200 calories a day and go for at least 3 10 minute walks every week for the next couple weeks and doing either ab work, squats/lunges, or lifting 8 lb dumbells every day. I'm looking for other positive people from whom to extract wisdom.
