Is running good for toning and slimming down legs??

I've read various articles and forum posts about the benefits of running. Obviously any form of exercise is good for you, but what I really want to know is if running is good for slimming down and shaping legs or if it just bulks up your thighs with muscle. If anyone has experiences with running and what it's done for your legs, please reply!

    running is great for toning legs and burning calories. But you cannot spot reduce fat. The body will burn off stores wherever it pleases regardless of what muscle groups you are targeting. Bummer, I know.
