Metabolism jumpstart diets?

My husband and I have been on our weightloss journey for several months now. He has gone from 204 to 175 and I have gone from 184 to 164 (this morning). We have been hovering around these weights for a couple months and want to kick it into high gear for the next few weeks to break through this plateau.
Is there any dietary changes we can make to kick start our metabolism again? Low carb, high protein? Cleanses? etc.
Note: I am hypothyroid so I have a difficult time with my metabolism as it is.

You can't jumpstart your metabolism. Natural and slow changes will improve it on its own. Try a different calorie count or a new exercise program.0

Congrats on a successful weightloss journey so far! You may be at the point in your weight loss journey where you actually need to start eating more The closer your body gets to its ideal weight the closer you should eat to maintenence.

EDIT: I also agree that increasing the intensity of your workouts will help with the metabolism boost. The more LBM you have the higher your metabolism will maintain. If you haven't already, start incorperating weights and resistance into your workouts. That is only my suggestion based on my own opinion though. Whatever you are comfortable with is what is best for you.0 -
IMO you'll probably have better luck improving metabolism by kicking your workouts up a notch. Do something more intense than you are now, or do whatever you are doing now more intensely. Really push yourself when you workout and you'll like see the difference you are looking for.

Best way to jumpstart metabolism is to exercise. Just do loads of working out and eat it all back so you're on the same net calories.0

Agreed. No offense to that person, glad it worked for them, but that is not a healthy or sound way to make a correct lifestyle change. You should never have to completely omit something from your diet, even if it is only for 17 days.0 -

What is a "hard carb"? (never heard that term before)
Also, I'm not sure if it's a typo or not, but lentils are extremely low fat. There is less and 1/2 gram of fat per 100 grams of cooked lentils.0 -

What about weights if you're not already? Or as another person mentioned bumping up your weight routine if you have one. I do love my cardio but I have seen a dramatic shift in my body with weight training.0

lift weights frequently
do cardio with real vigor!

Here's what I posted for someone else. You may find it helful. Not all of it pertains to you....but you can also change up your strength training exercises to vary the muscles used.
I do not believe in a metabolism "reset" idea. It's not really scientifically feasible.
1. You can help boost metabolism by keeping it working more often. What eating more often does: increases thermogensis, fasting lipid and postprandial insulin profiles. Clinical Study: http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/81/1/16.full
2. Build more metabolic muscle. Lifting heavier (strength training) will assist in maintaining Lean muscle while on a caloric deficit. Since lean muscle burns more calories, your body will burn more while at rest, allowing the caloric burn to take place while you sleep.
3. It sounds like you just started...So water retention on some small lean muscle development may account for the scale. May take a couple of months to see new weight loss. Everyone is unique in the way their body adapts to new lifestyles.
So, my recommendation is to have a nice glass of red wine tonight and hit the weights tomorrow. Your body composition will catch up to you in time.
My theory: "Nutrition is a diet.....Nutrition with exercise is a LIFESTYLE" and "If your going to strength train, you may as well do it HEAVY"0 -
Take a 'diet break' eating at maintenance (TDEE) for a couple of weeks. Then when you cut calories to your deficit again things should start moving again.0

I'm in the midst of trying the stuff mentioned in the link within the quote. I was at 1360 calories and per the calculations in the link, I jumped up to 1600. I started two weeks ago, and in two weeks I have lost 2 pounds. Mind you, my weight loss has been STUCK for a year, so I'm skeptical, afraid it's just a fluke, but if I lose again next week I'm going to find that OP and kiss him - seriously, I get to eat MORE and lose MORE weight? Whoddathunkit?0 -

In my opinion, completely depriving your body of something is just asking for your body to crave it in a more extreme way than necessary when it only needs a certain amount. Yes there are some things, such as trans fat and synthetic materials called "food" that should not be a part of your diet, but the person who suggested that "solution" mentions that it restricts your fruits, vegetables, and lean meats in the first phase. That is a major red flag. To me, those are definitely not things you should restrict from your body. Everything should be eaten, and eaten in correct moderation.
EDIT: Also the person says that the cravings are terrible. Cravings are the body's way of tell you that you need something, some nutrient, macro, etc. So if you are getting cravings, obviously something is not working for your body.0 -

EDIT: Also the person says that the cravings are terrible. Cravings are the body's way of tell you that you need something, some nutrient, macro, etc. So if you are getting cravings, obviously something is not working for your body.
I don't believe cravings are always something your body needs. Sometimes they are something your mind wants. Many cravings are more psychological than physiological.
And I think you misread the post. It says "Phase one is all low carb fruits, veggies, and lean meats with lots of green tea and lemon water" As in, it restricts your diet to these things, not that it restricts them from your diet.
I agree that cravings can also be hormonal and psychological as well. It can be a mix of many things.
I may have misread the lean meats part, but

Those are all things that shouldn't have to be restricted for weight loss. Those are all healthy sources of nutrients and fats for the body. Like I said everything in moderation.
But just because something isn't necessary doesn't make doing it "not healthy or sound". Which was my point.
I also said "in my opinion". I do not restrict myself to anything or from anything. For me, that is unhealthy. That is how I have chosen to live. I was simply expressing my disagreement with such a method considered a "lifestyle change" as she put it.0 -
Congrats on a successful weightloss journey so far! You may be at the point in your weight loss journey where you actually need to start eating more The closer your body gets to its ideal weight the closer you should eat to maintenence.

EDIT: I also agree that increasing the intensity of your workouts will help with the metabolism boost. The more LBM you have the higher your metabolism will maintain. If you haven't already, start incorperating weights and resistance into your workouts. That is only my suggestion based on my own opinion though. Whatever you are comfortable with is what is best for you.
I'm in the midst of trying the stuff mentioned in the link within the quote. I was at 1360 calories and per the calculations in the link, I jumped up to 1600. I started two weeks ago, and in two weeks I have lost 2 pounds. Mind you, my weight loss has been STUCK for a year, so I'm skeptical, afraid it's just a fluke, but if I lose again next week I'm going to find that OP and kiss him - seriously, I get to eat MORE and lose MORE weight? Whoddathunkit?

I think it's metabolism jumpstarts weight loss. When your metabolism speeds up, you burn foods faster and therefore you are most likely to lose weight and not store fat.
