Might already be a thread out there on this but just entering my dinner tonight . . . it's a tuna helper with a side of veggies. I look up the the food and the only choice available is 1/2 cup as packaged (which means not prepared?) Why would you want to know what 1/2 cup of the food unprepared is?? I'm eating it, it would be prepared . . . can someone enlighted me please as to why would you want to know what the unprepared nutrition facts?

I know some of the pasta in a box type meals you can prepare with oil instead of butter and there are probably other substitutes when making these meals.0

Unbelievably some people will use prepackaged food and add to a meal or a crock pot and that packaged amount is what they need to know. Or cereal I ned to know unprepared because i love to eat it out of the box with nothing else like a 3 year old.0

I personally put in the unprepared because I rarely make things per box instructions. I never add butter or oil (for example) and only ever use skim milk. So I can use the prepared calories.
I hope that gives you some insight. :-)0 -

Agreed. I often use half milk, half water, or sometimes I use ground turkey rather than beef. It just allows for accurate counting so you can personalize your meals!0 -
I also agree, I'd rather know the nutrition facts of exactly what is in the package and not how it's prepared because I also rarely make it the way the package says to.0

I think it comes down to the fact that the manufacturer has no control over how you prepare the food.0

I'm not sure if this is why or not....but what about the fact that were you to weigh a thing of dry noodles, etc. versus prepared. You aren't going to get as much if you weigh it prepared. I could be wrong but don't you weigh pasta before you cook it? Because the pasta takes on water and...inflates so to speak.0

Thanks everyone for the input, I guess I never thought that anyone would use the ingredients to prepare the food in a different way than the instructions on the box! I'm not a great cook so I wouldn't know what to do with the stuff without the instructions but it seems like alot of people do it that way! Thanks everyone, helpful! ;-)0
