Pee all the time but dehydrated?

I saw the gym nurse today and I'm at 46% hydration or something, when I should be between 55 and 66%. I don't know how I can do more. I'm drinking water all day. I have a sip every couple minutes, and refill my cup when it's empty. I probably drink between 6 an 8 cups a day (2 cups alone when I work out). Last night I watched a show and had to take 3 bathroom breaks in the middle. I've been waking up 2-3 times a night to go pee!

Does it get better?

    Some suggestions...

Do you drink a lot of coffee/cafeine besides the water? If so cut back and see if you have to go less often.

Are you thirsty all the time? if so consider your blood sugars tested just to be safe. If any of your freinds owns a glucometer for type 1 or two diabetes, they can do a test and let you know if it is normal.

Have you been checked for Diabetes?

This, my dad has type 1 and found out he had diabetes through this symptom.

most people find out from blood test at the doctor

ANd was the gym nurse trying to sell you something to help? If so, see a doctor and get the full story.

This person obviously meant that this was the symptom that tipped him off that there was something wrong.

My blood sugar is fine, I had everything tested in January.

No, she wasn't trying to sell me anything. I have tea once a day or less.

you've asked a few questions here

As for the hydration percentage - talk to your doctor, and ask if the 46% is ok for you. Don't take the gym nurse's word on it if you're worried.

If you are thirsty all the time despite drinking (which you don't seem to say - but that's how folks have interpreted it), you can always get tested for diabetes, but don't have a panic about it. Just because you're at 46% hydration doesn't mean you have diabetes. People are just reading your note and making a guess. But if you're worried, again, just go to a doc.

As for peeing all the time - the longer you drink large quantities of water (longer in terms of time - months, etc), the more your body and bladder get used to it and you will pee with less frequency. If you think you are still peeing too often, again, my answer is going to be - see your doctor.

Summary point - if you are worried about your health or hydration - talk to your doc. The answers you get here will not be as accurate as talking to the doctor you see on a regular basis.
  • You can help better hydrate yourself by making sure you're consuming the minimal amount of sodium required daily. Also, you can add more water by eating fruits and veggie with a high water content, like tomatoes, celery, and watermelon.

I read somewhere that people with more body fat tend to have a lower water % than those with less body fat.

    OK, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_water

"the total amount of water in a man of average weight (70 kilograms) is approximately 40 litres, averaging 57 percent of his total body weight. In a newborn infant, this may be as high as 75 percent of the body weight, but it progressively decreases from birth to old age, most of the decrease occurring during the first 10 years of life. Also, obesity decreases the percentage of water in the body, sometimes to as low as 45 percent".

Oh, mine is usually around 46% now. As I have lost weight is has gone from 40% or so upwards gradually.
