How long does it take your metabolism to get back on track?

I have been dieting all wrong, reducing my calorie intake to under 1000 and working out two hours a day and STILL gaining weight. A friend introduced me to this site, thank God, and today is day 1 of eating all my calories. How long will it take to see a difference in my metabolism. I have to say that I am very nervous eating all these calories. :(

It depends on how long you have suppressed calories. It could take a few weeks or it could take several months. It just depends on how long you eat at maintenance and your workout routine.

Generally, I would suggest eating at maintenance and do some significant weight training and HIIT to see if that helps and then start a cut phase again.

I did the hCG diet which is also a very low calorie diet (500 calories a day). Had to stop because of all the side effects. It has taken my metabolism awhile to get back on track. Because of everything my body was going through, my doctor didn't want me cutting calories so I ate healthy and kept my calories to a normal range and started gaining back quickly. It has been a few weeks and I feel like it is finally plateauing where I'm not gaining so I'm thinking my metabolism is getting back to where it needs to be? Regardless, I've been reading and reading, our bodies go into starvation mode with these diets so long-term weight loss is not realistic. That's why almost everybody I've talked to says they end up gaining back at least as much as they lost while on the diet.
