deadlift vs. squaf

I'm doing an exercise program that will remain nameless as for fear of being called a spammer or being called out for advertising.

I've been doing both squats and deadlifts and I'm struggling to see the difference. Before some wise butt comes in here and says your legs are straight in dead lifts and you bend them in squats, I'm doing both straight leg and regular deadlifts. In the gym, it's obvious. In the squat rack, the bar is on my back while the bar never goes beyond the top of my thighs for deadlifts. With dumbbells, the only difference appears to be where I hold the weights. The moves feel the same.

HELP?!?!?!

squat not squaf... I hate when I miss crap like that.
