Opinions Please

I have been working out and changing the way I eat for 1 month straight. Before I started this process a lot of people wouldn't even admit that I could benefit from weight loss. Very few friends cared enough to say hey Asia I think you should work on this and I see how its effected how you dress and your self esteem (I was depressed and it showed A LOT). People talked to me like nothing was wrong. After I've lost 9 lbs everyone has something to say about what will or won't work.

Friend: u look slimmer, but i think my workout will get u in better shape

ME: whats your regimen? what are you doing?

Friend: I go to the gym but I haven't been in a month and sometimes I randomly do kettle ball exercises. They are better than anything else.

Me: I'm ok with what I'm doing now, but thanks

Friend: You don't know anything about kettle ball training, let me show you a REAL workout!

^really? at no point did he ask what I was doing/ told me my workout isn't a real one yet I've lost weight and he hasn't. I actually told him I've done my research on kettle ball exercises and he said if you did you would be doing them lol. Its so annoying. Am I wrong for being annoyed? Is this common?

That can be hard to deal with. I usually just let it go and say something like, "Oh, that's interesting". I don't ask for more info or do anything to prolong the conversation. I just let them say their piece. Their intentions are good but that doesn't mean I have to alter my plan at all.

I tell my friends who think they know more than I do if they can bench more than me, then we'll talk. Then when my girlfriends hear my bench is 130lbs...well nevermind then HA.

I can't stand the people who don't do *kitten* but then think they are all knowing.

Maybe a response like, "Ooh, thanks for letting me know. Sounds like a great idea if I get stuck."

I'll practice not prolonging the conversation.

You are losing weight, and I presume feeling better with yourself. What works for one does not necessarily work for others - I have no interest in going to the gym but am losing weight. As a previous poster said, thanks, that's nice, but no thanks. He should respect your opinion if he wants your respect.
  • No matter what kind of exercise you do as long as you enjoy what you are doing it's bound to be successful. It could be just walking everyday or running or whatever you are more then likely going to stick to it. I am sure your friend was just trying to be helpful though. Best of luck to you.
