What exactly is "Lifting Heavy"?

Ok, Ok. I get it. I have read enough post about BMR, TDEE, IIFYM and strength training that you all have me convinced this is the way to go. I have to admit, my first week at this has been great
So my next question is how do I know if I'm lifting enough weight? How many reps should I be able to do? Should I lift until I fail?

Lifting heavy is generally considered to be 5-8 reps. The last one should be difficult, but doable.

How many different machines, bench, dead lifts or whatever should you do?

so, if I can do 12-15 reps, I should go heavier?

Pretty much what the earlier poster said about 5-8 Reps. But make sure in those 6-8 Reps you put in you have a stable form as well. Heavy is different for everyone, and you have to build your way up.

Thanks! I usually do 10-12 reps, so I will start to increase my weights.

    Depends on your goals.

    drop body fat%
    lower risk of Osteoporosis
    nice looking gluttes
be stronger (but not bulky, whch I hear is hard for us feaes so we shouldn't orry about it anyway)
