I'm not normally a fan of cover songs, but I think Van Halen (not Van Hagar!) performed several good covers:

    You Really Got Me
    Ice Cream Man
    You're No Good
Where Have All the Good Times Gone
    (Oh) Pretty Woman
    Dancing in the Street
Big Bad Bill (Is Sweet William Now)
    Happy Trails

Metallica - Whiskey in the Jar was good, but still not as good as the Think Lizzy Version. An all-time clasic

I love my music, especially when a good band or artist does an amazing cover of a song that changes the whole sound of it.
My favourite at the moment is this EPIC (in my opinion) cover of Limp Bizkit's - Break Stuff.
The band is a small American outfit that i started to listen to in October when they were supporting Bowling For Soup on their UK tour! Check out the cover and some of their other songs!

best cover band in my honest and humble opinion is Boyce Avenue

A lot of people bash cover songs for some reason.
I personally don't find anything wrong with a band doing their own rendition of a song.

I really enjoy Bullet For My Valentine's cover of Crazy Train.
