I eat when I'm bored

Hey everyone!
Growing up, there was always snacks around the house and there wasn't always someone around to tell my what do eat, so I would sometimes (read: often) just eat what I wanted. I definitely got into the habit of eating when I get bored, so that is definitely my crutch when trying to eat healthy.
I moved out last September for college and it makes eating healthier a bit easier, but unfortunately there's a convenience store right downstairs in the building I live in that offers all my favourite junk food. My eating habits are a lot better than what they used to be. Everyday, instead of buying my lunch in the campus cafeteria, I'll pack a lunch. I'll usually pack an apple, baby carrots, yogurt, almonds, raspberries or grapes, and a sandwich with lettuce, mozzarella cheese and hummus on whole grain bread or peanut butter sandwich. Give or take, depending on how many hours of classes I have that day.
The problem is after classes when I'm done studying and I have no plans to go out. I'll get bored and then I'll really feel like eating bad foods. So that's what I need to work on.
Anyways, that's basically how I ended up on this site. I figured if I tracked what I ate it would make me feel guilty and start eating better. It's... a work in progress.

try making it more about "accountability" than guilt... it's just a way to track what's going on and guide you, it's not supposed to make you feel bad!0

I also have this problem, boredom eating. I have started eating pickles or fruit when I'm bored or craving sweets (I have a bad sweet tooth) and that has helped a lot. I haven't had anything sweet in almost 2 weeks other than 2 cans of dr pepper and maybe 4 glasses of sweet tea. It seems now the less I let myself have the sweets, the less I want them and for me, that is a good thing. Also, feel free to add me, but women only!0

In my experience, guilt fuels overeating.
I think I have a similar problem. I eat to keep me going through the tedium of my imaging transcription job. My work station is at home only a few steps from the kitchen, and it's a lot more interesting in there than it is in here. I notice that when I'm off work and away from this computer, I eat less. I've got a lot of other projects to keep myself busy, mind and hands engaged.0 -
Boredom eating is also my problem. Since i realized what my problem was i've treid very much to stay busy. It helps keep me focused on my goal. If I find myself getting bored I sometime log on and occupy my mind by reading post or logging my food. Wierd enough thing is gets my mind off of eating. Anyone can feel free to add me I log daily..0
