walking in place hurts back? Normal walking doesn't?

hi all so I'm desperate to get up and get moving as I'm sick of looking and feeling like this. However we are STILL getting snow out side so yeah not going out there! LOL In an attempt to get moving more I bought a Wii game called Walk it Out also know as Step to the Beat. So here's the problem. For some odd reason regular walking does not bother me one bit. I could do it for hours! However when I walk in place to my game My lower back hurts so bad I get up to maybe 500 steps before I just can't handle it any more. I have an incredibly high pain tolerance so this is VERY frustrating for me! IS this normal? Or am I doing something wrong to cause this pain? Thanks all!

my first thought is that you are lifting your knees higher and without strong enough core muscles you are using your back more than you should be. When I walk in place I exaggerate the movements without meaning to.0

hhmm I feel like I'm not lifting them up nearly as high when walking in place. But I could be wrong0

Unless it really hurts I'd give it a little more time and see if it continues.
My lower back got sore when I first started running and lifting, as soon as my tummy mucles got a little stronger this went away.0 -
I have the same problem. I think the pain comes from the fact that your legs aren't doing the longer forward strides which uses your back muscles, so your back gets stiff. It helps to vary your steps and move around the room a little. Also, whenever you start to feel the pain, check your posture. Tighten your abs and keep your shoulders back. I also find that putting my hands behind my head helps.0

ok cool I will keep at it. maybe take 2 aspirin before I start to help keep the pain down a bit and pay more attention to things. thanks guys!/girls! I love this site Heck if this helps build up my core with out having to do squats I'll take the pain! LOL0

replace walking in place with burpees. problem solved0

yeah... I looked that up lol thanks for the suggestion but it's going to be a long time before I can move like that! shoot I'm not sure I could have done it back when I was younger and fit! Once I'm on the floor I'm stuck. I have to get in a crawling position and get up that way.. I've tried getting up from a crouch it was a failure every time I've done it LMAO can't say it's not hilarious to watch though!0

i see myself making a beautiful face plant on the hard wood floor doing this! I'm a clutz0

Skip rope if you can't do burpees but get moving! Your lower back just needs the exercise.0
