ALL foods have some sort of Calorie Value, but the ones I've listed here have so little calories that your body burns it without doing anything at all, that's why it is listed under the ZERO calorie foods: OMG. I am going to boil me some cabbage: I love it! and it's NO calories!

Negative calorie list for vegetables

Asparagus
Fennel *
Aubergine *
Gourd *
Broccoli
Leek
Cabbage *
Lettuce *
Carrots
Marrow *
Cauliflower Peppers
Celery * Radish *
Chicory * Spinach
Cress * Tomato *
Cucumber *
Turnip

Negative calorie list for fruits

Apricot
Mandarin orange
Blackberry *
Melon Canteloupe *
Blackcurrant
Peaches
Clementines Plums
Damsons
Raspberry *
Grapefruit
Rhubarb **
Guava * Strawberry
Honeydew Melon Tangerine
Lemon *
Watermelon

Combining negative calorie foods with good protein sources not only helps control appetite but will help maintain the metabolism because total calories are not cut too much, plus the amino acid pool is maintained which limits the loss of muscle.

* indicates very good negative calorie foods

** Indicates excellent negative calories but stewed without added sugar

    crock of s***.

seriously, do some research. and by that i mean look up medical journals, not just fad diet sites. although a google search provides plenty of articles about negative calories and how in fact they are a myth. like this one.
    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/negative-calorie-foods/AN02040

lots of people claim that negative calories exist, some even claim to be doctors. but the fact is that there is no reliable medical proof supporting negative calories.

are these foods good for you? yes. should you eat them? yes. are they negative calories? no, they are extremely low in calories, but not enough that you can burn more simply by digesting.

I don't think you can burn MORE simply by digesting these foods but if you eat a bowl of lettuce for 7 calories and you BURN 50 calories per half hour just existing the two cancel each other out, wouldn't you think?

Seriously, there are more polite ways to disagree with her post but whatever. Politeness is a dying art.

That's exactly what I said - ALL FOODS HAVE CALORIES! Did you read it ALL? I said exactly that. Just trying to help out...

That's cool and all, but I'll still count them in my diary.

I log them ALL...looking at my diary for just the first half of today (I haven't had dinner yet), I have had 126 calories worth of these foods.
Yes, it's good to know which things are lowest in calories, but they are not actually free. Some days I eat 200 calories worth of these items!

Besides, most of these have carbs and fiber, so if you look at the count for those, you'll want to log them!

Those 126 calories I mentioned had 25 carbs, 3 protein, and 5 fiber!

Thank you for the list, it is nice to know the lowest calorie items, but I just didn't want anyone thinking they were truly "free".

Except that with MFP, your TDEE is already factored in and if you don't count the calories in these foods, you're lessening your calorie deficit.

This site says a cup of watermelon is 45 calories. That I could eat in about 5 minutes so not my idea of free but I do love watermelon. Maybe I can eat it while I'm on the stationary bike lol.

Good point. :) I think I have too much of a Weight Watchers mentality! HAHA. Personally I eat way too few vegetables to bother logging them but that number is going to be different for everyone.

You are right- politeness is a dying art. How sad it is that people feel it's necessary to be so rude!

    Great list. Thanks for posting!

I discovered a calorie-free food last night. Mustard. 1 tbsp...the only thing it has is 55mg of sodium. I read in Shape that a girl lost weight by first replacing mayonnaise with mustard & I didn't see how she got the idea to do that...then I opened my fridge and my eyes went :noway: and then my face went  and I put some all over my tuna.
