Anybody on Dialysis?

I'm on dialysis. I have been for 3 years now. To get on the transplant list, I was told I needed to lose 35 pounds, to get down to 264 lbs. I've procrastinated for 3 years. Weight loss does not come easy to me. Unlike most dialysis patients (who seem to just melt weight off), I've gotten BIGGER on dialysis. And it doesn't help that I'm on fluid restriction. Are there any others like me in MFP? Maybe we can support each other!

No, I'm not on dialysis, but my uncle was. He had uncontrolled high blood pressure for years. It affected his kidneys. He went on dialysis. He got a transplant within a year and is doing VERY well now. Good luck with getting the weight off. I know my uncle looks and feels much better since the operation although apparently he might have to have a replacement transplant in 10 or 20 years time.

  • Are you on hemodialysis or on peritoneal dialysis? I have done both but peritoneal dialysis I seemed to gain weight. I got up to like 210 and I'm only 5'3" After a few months on hemodialysis I began to lose weight. Now I'm at 161.
