Hey Techies: Recover a broken CD?

My boyfriend is a musician, and he wrote and recorded a song back in high school (~14 years ago). The CD somehow cracked completely through from the center out to the edge on one side (it's still in one piece). This is his only copy of this song and he's pretty upset, as am I. He has progressed with his music and I want to be able to surprise him with some of the song that started it all so he'll have it forever. It would mean a tremendous amount to both of us.

I have been searching high and low for a way to recover as much of the song as possible from it, even if the new copy has skips in it (honestly better than having nothing at all).

The only thing I have learned so far is to NOT try to run the disc in any of my own players because it may shatter and ruin the device. Through what Google searching I have done, I read something about data recovery from OnTrack.. But I will have to call them and ask if they can do anything.

Any ideas or other means to recover something from this CD? There has to be some service out there that can do this.. I can't imagine that it's gone forever and no one can extract anything from it.

Thank you in advance for any input! ♥

just an idea.... but perhaps try to glue it from the back with some tiny drops of crazy glue.. carefully not to make it drip to the front.

Maybe this may put it together strong enough to make a copy to the pc and re burn it.
