What constitutes a 'runner'?

*Must your shoes be expensive?
*Is there a "minimum miles run per week" requirement?
*How many running subscriptions must I receive before I am authentic?
*How long until I fill up my whole back bumper and windshield with "26.2" & "3.2" and "0.0" stickers?

Basically I just want to know when I can confidently claim myself as a true and legitimate runner.

If both feet are off the ground while you are in stride you are a runner. Walking requires one foot to be in contact with the ground at all times.
Pace, distance, gear, races, etc do not make a runner. No bumper/window stickers required :) Although I hear race medals make nice Christmas tree decorations.

When you get up and go for a run, you are a runner.

I have run countless races, but own no bumper stickers and have not one running mag subscription. My shoes are expensive, but that'll happen. There's no secret password to the club. Well, ok, maybe "bodyglide" is the secret password.

Hold on a sec...I'm pretty sure that sounds like a jumper. I could be wrong though. I only run if I'm being chased, and am not in possession of 1 or more guns.

the both feet off the ground thing has me questioning my form. i am a new runner (c25k completed and 1 week of solid 3 miles behind me) and i am pretty sure i have 1 foot on the ground at all times. so great, im not a runner. its ok, my pace is really more of a fast walk anyway i guess. lol

If you go out and run then you are a runner  I admit I have 26.2, 13.1, Trail Running, 25K and Run Anywhere stickers on my back window but that in and of itself does not make me a runner. What does make me a runner is the fact that I run whether it be for health, for a big race or just to relax. You are a runner and don't let anyone tell you that you aren't!

I barely break a 12 min mile but I am certainly more of a runner than I was a year ago and I LOVE it!!!

It was more of a joke. If you've ever watched speed walkers they have an exaggerated walk because their rule is to keep one foot on the ground at all times. They get pretty strict about what constitutes walking.

If you run you are a runner :). We aren't as strict as the speed walkers.

I feel bad for laughing at speed walkers but I can't help it. It balances out though when I realize that regardless of how silly it looks, they're still moving faster than me. (when I'm sprinting)

I was once beaten in a race by a speedwalker (which funnily enough autocorrects to sleepwalker).
